bose around-ear headphones

Hi, im thinking of buying a pair of bose triport headphones, but i've always heard bose stuff is way over priced for what they are? is this true for headphones as well? i also considered the HD595 and goldring DR150 obviously at a much better price! but how does hd595 and dr150 compare to the bose triport?

are the bose qc2 and qc3 worth the price tag? they are around £200-£300!!?? are they much better than bose triport and HD595?

any recommendations / advise much appreciated, thanks!

Re: bose around-ear headphones

Having had various Bose products, I think the view they are overpriced is quite true.

I think there are far better sounding phones for the money than the Tri's. The same goes for the noise cancelling ones - that's money you're paying for noise cancelling tech rather than sound. Unless you fly regularly, it's not worth it IMO.

I've heard the 595s and didn't like them (and that's before I even knew how much they were). The place I get my audio gear from don't recommend them either, as he feel there's something wrong with the bass - and he's tried all the stock to see if he had a faulty one.

I've never heard a Goldring phone, sorry.

For anyone to help with suggestions you'd need to say what you're using the phones for, and what with. And whether you need isolation of not.

Re: bose around-ear headphones

thanks for the help!

to answer your questions i think i will mainly be using the headphones for watching movies at night (so don't weak up housemates) and to listen to music on my ipod, i actually rather have around-ear headphones for music!

so i would like something thats good for movies and music, a bit of an all-rounder really... something thats on the same level or even better than bose tripods for less than £100?

thanks a again!!

Re: bose around-ear headphones

For that usage you really only need closed back phones - they isolate both you and others from sound.

I'd suggest the Audio Technica A900, but there are plenty around I haven't heard, so don't know what to recommend. Check out the online retailers. Headphone only makers are usually good value, those like Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic and Koss.
