Better than Sennheiser HD595?

Just wondering if there any better headphones for £103 than the Sennheiser HD595.

My main uses will be:

Games
Movies
Music.

many thanks.

No,
I have had HD595
Bose Around Ear
Bose On Ear
Grado Sr-80

and none are better in terms of sound quality than the sennheiser;s. They are truly a class in themselves.
Crystal clear sound, even with heavy bass, makes them perfect for nearly all situations (music, films, games).

Re: Better than Sennheiser HD595?

I'm thinking of buying a pair of the 595's. Out of curiosity where did you see them for £103? (

The cheapest I can find them online is £110 on ebay.

Cheers

Really? People are either into the Senn sound, or they're not. But sweeping statements like that are unhelpful. The Bose aren't a particularly tough test, they make a lot of terribly overpriced phones.

After listening to a few Senn's, the 595, I thought was the worst of the lot for the price - mudd, sludgy bass that doesn't sound right at all.

There are plenty that are equal, or better than the 595, depending on what sound you're looking for. There is no 'best' for 100, 200 300 quid etc, it depends on what people want from their phones.

Other contender for best in class could also go to:
A Technica AD700 - leaner bass, but better balance. Excellent soundstage for games for the price. Decent souncard to run it on helps.

Grado SR80 - tight punchy bass, and a bright clear sound, typical of Grado. UK doesn't get favourable pricing for Grados though. At US prices they are a steal.

Beyer DT440 (better with an amp tho) or DTX800, very good music and gaming phones.

I'd be having a look at these too.

Those were just a few that I have had,

I have also had Sennheiser HD650 and Bose Quietcomfort 3 (but obviously out of the price bracket).

Oh yeah, I also had Beyer DT-100. I have had LOTS over the years and can't even remember 90% of them, but what I do know is that the Sennheiser HD595 (currently) are the BEST I have ever had (best ones for under £100 when I bought them 2 years ago).

I disagree about the Grado-Sr80, then come close to the 595's but do not beat them. I found them too base heavy.

However, everyones different and have different requirements. Some are after comfort above all and some base etc.

I was after the clearest sound producing headphones, with no distortion, and that is what I found in 595.

Just a suggestion but have you considered Goldring DR150? They have had some very good reviews and can be bought very cheap now.

Exactly, and that's why I expressed my opinion. OP needs to know there are no hard and fast 'truths' in audio.

But how you can say the Grado is bass heavy compared to the 595 is beyond me. People usually complain about the lack of doof-ness.
