Possibly the sennheiser dj cans HD 25-1 IIs.
Sneaks under £150 and passive isolation. I have been looking at them after looking at ANR see current thread i started.

'Best' is in the ear of the beholder. Cost isn't the single barometer of good, better, best.
Depends what you listen to, how you like to hear music, what you will be running them from, whether they're going to be used as portables or not, whether you're listening to music, playing games or watching movies, and whether you want phones, canals or ear buds types.
You should narrow it down with more info...

ah thanks
i listen to minimal techno, dance, rock/post rock/alt.. playing from a PMP, iPod Touch 1G + probably a Fiio E5, just for a lil boost.
i need some closed headphones for travel use, library/classroom situations
Can anyone recommend the senn HD 280's? AT ATH-A700's? Beyer DT770?
im also getting some open headphones for home and computer/game use, but that will come later.
right now i need some v.g isolating headphones, not IEMs.
thanks for the replies.

Re: BEST <£150 Closed Headphone (most isolation)
I'd think carefully about your initial choices: ditch the DT770, it needs a decent desktop amp to run properly and get anything near your money's worth. And they're really big.
THe ATs are easy to drive off portable players, but are big. The Senns are DJ type and have massive isolation, but comfort isn't the best.
You probably don't need the phone with the 'most' isolation, a good closed pair is is probably all you need. To get DT770 isolation levels, you'd need IEMs.
Check out the Audio Technica ESW9. Closed, comfy, classy wood cups and leather, very good sound and portable. Not sure how much they are in the UK.

Re: BEST <£150 Closed Headphone (most isolation)
this ESW9's look looooovely, but bit expensive , i could buy them but... naaaaaaaaaaah
the A700's are probs my fav so far, i like big headphones, i could of course get the AD700's later for a nice matching pair
i guess i probs dont need maximum isolation, just something that can let me listen in peace in an environment of about 30-40dB
thanks for the replies.

Re: BEST <£150 Closed Headphone (most isolation)
The ESW9 are import only and if it looks too good to be true then they are fake. The price has gone up post-recession due to the weakened pound so I do not think they are justifiable now, and the price I paid was just about borderline

Fourthed.
I wouldn't go near that at that price. Going on the price here in Aus, you'd be looking at 200 quid+ for a genuine ESW. Sorry about that.
If you don't mind big, you won't go far wrong with the A700. It will run off portable players and sound pretty goo too. AT make very good products at a good price. Too big for my head (54cm, so if yours is this small, fit could be an issue), but I like their sound.

I'd check your local prices. I'm not sure what import means there, but they're imported here in Aus as well (isn't everything?), but available from local retailers. Best check the reputable online sellers.
