Headphones for Cycling?

I've been using a pair of Sennheiser PX100 headphones for music on the move for a while now, which I've been mostly happy with. Decent sound and good bass for a fairly low price, although a bit lacking in isolation.

However, since I have started cycling to work and thus wearing a helmet, the PX100s have become somewhat impractical for listening to music on my commute! So, I am looking for replacements.

Now I've never been too keen on earbuds - I generally find them uncomfortable and far too bass light and treble heavy. However I am intreagued by the kind of wrap over your ears type headphones that don't go over your head. So, can anyone recommend such a pair of headphones that can be driven fairly hard, have reasonable sound with decent bass, and are relatively cheap (looking around £30-40 max)? Or perhaps someone would like to point out the folly of my dislike towards earbuds?

Thanks!

I use the Koss KSC 75 for cycling. They are ear clip style. Cheap, (20-25 quid) but don't let that fool you, they sound an awful lot better than their price. Real bargains. Not over bassy, but good bass impact and a punchy sound, very much like the Grado sound.

Re: Headphones for Cycling?

Hi, thanks - those look just the ticket.

However, in the mean time I've also noticed the Sennheiser PMX100 - which appear to be the PX100s with ear clips and a neck band, rather than head band. Is this correct?

If so, how would you rate the Koss KSC75 with the Sennheiser PX/PMX 100s?

Re: Headphones for Cycling?

I wouldn't know about which fits better, but I have no probs with the Koss at all. The headband on the Senn apears superfluous when you have the clip, so don't know why they bother.

As for sound, the Koss is streets ahead IMO. I'll be honest though, I'm not a Senn fan. I've heard the PX and found it a bit bassy, but not very good bass and poor overall sound, I thought.

Re: Headphones for Cycling?

Anbody with any tiny grain of sense would know that wearing headphones whilst cycling is outragousley stupid.
You need your eyes and ears on the road at all times...any one caught using should be fined!!!

The Koss are open backed, so you can hear traffic noise. It's why I don't wear canals on a bike.

Open backed? it is still not very sensible at all.

When I need another Mother, I'll move to Rwanda and wait for Madonna or Angelina to drop by.
