Which HDMI Cable?

Hi im new to HDMI cables and i need to know which to buy. I want to use it to link my PS3 to my Sony Bravia. These are the two i have found:
Hdmi 1- official sony
Hdmi 2 -
i want to know which one to get or if there is a better deal somewhere else. The first one is the official sony hdmi for ps3 and the other does not say the make. the second one was £30 but now £8 and the ony one is £18.
so which one i better (im hoping the second one because its cheaper)

Re: Which HDMI Cable?

This is covered alot. The difference between them is nothing, they will perform the same. With hdmi anything below 4-5m then go cheap. The signal is digital.

Re: Which HDMI Cable?

Exaclty, a £80 monster 1m hdmi cable will perform the same as a decent well made £5 cable of ebay as the signal is just 1's and 0's.

All this made for the PS3, v1.3 stuff is rubbish.

Good choice of tv. Go for cheap but decent built cable, you dont want them to fall apart in your hands

Re: Which HDMI Cable?

I have just ordered 3 of these

http://www.hdstep.com/1M-3FT-ATLONA-...d-p-16704.html

The company is in America but they have a curency converter on their website and deliver worldwide. For the cables and shipping it came to under £80.00 all in which is the price for 1 good QED or chord cable. Also these cables are 1.3 cat 2 which means they will meet the needs of future HDMI hardware (Deep colour and 1440P).

At this price what have you got to loose. If these were available in the UK they would be at least twice the price!!

Re: Which HDMI Cable?

But I still believe you've spent about £50-60 too much. For metre long HDMI cables I wouldn't spend any more than a tenner.

I have personally compared 2 HDMI cables: 1 cost me under a tenner from Asda and the other was an £80ish QED lead. This was with a friends 50" Panasonic 1080P Plasma using 1080P from my PS3. neither of us could tell the difference and my friend now feels a little cheated after spending £80 on the QED.

Re: Which HDMI Cable?

I bet a cheap cable would handle 1440p just fine. Aslong as the cable is well made it doesnt matter as the version refers more to the equipment using it.

Re: Which HDMI Cable?

It all comes down to bandwidth and there is only so much info that can be thrown a cable. The hardware is not about at the moment to test these cables but there will be in the future. All i have done is spent a little extra so that when it becomes available the cables I have will not need replacing

Oh I liked the colour too!!!!

I live in New Zealand and if you think the cables are expensive in the UK you should look here. Harvey Normans Electrical were selling the Monster 1000 at over $600. There just isn't the compatition over here!! Just a few retailers and specialists have the all the market.

Re: Which HDMI Cable?

It's possible that a cheaper well made cable could handle 1440P. But a well made cable would cost way more than 10 pounds. And thats my point. 20 quid for a well made future proofed cable thats going to connet thousands of pounds worth of home cinema gear is a small price to pay to know that you are getting as much out of you AV gear as is possible and you aren't going to have to replace the cables in the future

Re: Which HDMI Cable?

I reckon it's all about build quality.

I bought a cheap one and have had endless problems because the connectors are really poor quality, they don't sit in the sockets properly, and it seems to be poorly manufactured. If I get time tonight, I'll post some pictures.

I borrowed a QED one from a friend, to find the fault, and the difference in build quality is very obvious.

I've ordered one from keene electronics now as I was impressed with some other cables I bought from them but they don't seem stupidly over priced.
