Hdmi over Cat5

This is one thing i havnt got a clue about. When i move out we'll be using the 50" in the living room running SKy HD and getting 37/42 for the bedroom which i want to have sky HD on also.

Will this cheap maplin solution work....

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...ce=14&doy=11m7

If i split the hdmi output from the sky box using one of these....

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...ce=14&doy=11m7

I assume this will also carry sound.

What other solutions are there, do any include remote extension. If not i was going to just a sperate RF remote extender.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Hdmi over Cat5

just use RF2 and magic eye for control how long will the run be? I wouldn't use HDMI to second room if i could help it. component + stereo audio needs 2 Cat5 for passive baluns one cat5 for Smart-e. Maplin stuff looks cheap enough no idea if it actually work though. As sky is only 1080i its worth a go and the cabling is the same for the better solutions Gefen etc

Re: Hdmi over Cat5

Guys, if i use Y splitter form PS3 to 2 TVs, one is 1080P the other is 1080i, 1080 will be connected directly from Y splitter, 1080i will be connected thought Hdmi over Cat5. Will that work ?

Thanks

Re: Hdmi over Cat5

Hello all

un1eash - we use/supply the Octava HDDA12-UK (1x2 HDMI Splitter Distribution Amp displays HD video simultaneously on 2 displays. Full 1080P resolution.) and HDMICAT (HDMI Ethernet extender. Transmit 1080i HDMI to 300ft) to achieve exactly what you are trying to do. As Horny says you can run the RF2 alongside the Ethernet extenders to achieve remote IR control.

Octava have a new version of their HDMI over Ethernet extenders on the way that will include IR In/Out - a release date has still to be fixed.

mariohren - very unlikely that the Y-Splitter would work even without the added complication of the HDMI over Ethernet extender! The kit linked to above will do what you require; though you'll likely have to manually toggle the PS3 between 1080p and 1080i; or leave it permanently set to 1080i

Re: Hdmi over Cat5

Hi, I've just moved into a newbuild flat and am in a similar situation. There are already 2 ethernet ports up on a wall with power socket and a further 2 ethernet ports down in the corner. The plan is to have a blu-ray player down in the corner and connect via HDMI/Cat 5e sender. Will I need just standard Cat 5e cable or is crossover cable required? Also, are there any HDMI/ Cat 5e units that do not require an external power supply?

Sorry for the mini hijack!

Re: Hdmi over Cat5

Hello strike4A

Most HDMI over Ethernet extenders will work with CAT5, CAT5e and CAT6 cable - the higher the resolution/the longer the cable run the more reliant you are on decent Ethernet cables.

Most systems don't use Cross Over cables - though its always best to consult the Installation Manual for the units you plan to use.

Whilst someone somewhere will no doubt have a set of Ethernet Balun that steal power from the 5V rail on the HDMI signal bus its not a great idea so plan instead to use Balun that are externally powered - HDMI Ethernet extender. Transmit 1080i HDMI to 300ft
