Is it worth buying a brand HDMI cable??

Hi,

I need to buy a 2m HDMI cable but am confussed as i have heard conflicting views on this before. Is it worth spending £60 to buy a brand cable like QED or should i just buy a cheap one?

please advise???

Seriously mate use the search button, do you think you're the first person to ask? This forum is littered with the same question. What conflicting views have you heard and was that from a Currys/Comet employee? A decent quality cheap cable will be fine.

Re: Is it worth buying a brand HDMI cable??

I use markgrant and bettercables myself (plus 2 freebie cables). My mates who have just followed me down the projector route use 10m ukhdmi and a one from audiovisualonline. Basically if it's a short length spend <£15 and you'll be fine. There's a good FAQ at hdmi.org and bluejeanscables.com (also recommended for buying HDMI and other cables but use the .co.uk site)

i had an 8 metre chord hdmi cable cost 160.00, i compared it against a cable my mate bought off e bay called atlona, their was no difference on my jvc hd1 projector so i sold my chord and bought an 8 metre atlona cable for 50.00,
you should get a 2-3 metre one for about 10.00-15.00 the chioice is youres,
waste money if you want, and when i told this to a chord company rep at the bristol hi fi show he admitted that they dont even make the hdmi cable themselves they are made in china for them,

Branded is no gaurantee of quality. Most of them are the same. However this is not the same as saying quality varies between cables, because it does. But the flip side to that coin, is the quality ones aren't necessarilly the expensive ones! Clear? As mud I imagine...

Build quality may vary on a 2m cable , but picture or sound quality most definitely does not , in terms of results , there is no difference no matter how much you pay , it will either work or it wont.

This is not an analog cable were talking about here , and there are no variations in picture or sound quality due to a cable in the case of HDMI.
