I have an hdmi to dvi cable but need to go hdmi to hdmi. Will a converter work ok? I ask this because I bought a VGA to hdmi connector a few months ago then found that it would not work and was told that its not possible for it to work as hdmi is a digital signal (dont know why those connectors where manufactured then).

If your PC Graphics card has a DVI socket on it (not via some converter) then to connect to a HDMI TV (If the TV allows) you will need a DVI to HDMI cable.
If you tell everyone what Graphics card you have and what TV you have then better advice will be forthcoming. (Make and model numbers all help)

Thanks but I already know what I need. The items I want to connect are both hdmi but the cable I have is hdmi to dvi and it cost me a bit as its 10 metres. So the question is, will a converter work. I supose I'm going to have to try is as it seems no-one else has used one.

It really does help to tell us what you are connecting if you want a useful answer.

For example will you need to send CEC signals over the link?

These are not usually carried out to a DVI connector so you would lose the control options.

Ultimately try it and see, I've seen reports with such configurations not working at all for no good reason so in the end trial is the only way to be sure.

Ok sorry mate, its a laptop to my LCD. My Panasonic LCD has HDMI but not VGA. I probably confused things above by mentioning the connector I bought to use on my previous laptop that had VGA but no HDMI or DVI. (Actually I noticed no-one supplies those HDMI to VGA connectors now, so it seems some clown made them and suppliers were convinced of their use then at some stage realized they dont work).
I bought the cable as I was going to build a media centre then changed my mind. Then I bought the HDMI to VGA to see if it would work on my old laptop. Now I have a laptop with HDMI.
