HDMI into non HDCP compliant pj via HD fury

Hi guys

apologies that i have also posted this question in another section but i am not sure where was most appropriate to post.

I am relatively new to the game so please humble me.

My set up is xbox 360 (with hdmi) and dvd to onkyo 606. outputting via 12m hdmi to an old non hdcp compliant projector. I chose the hdmi connection as i intend to udpate to an hdcp compliant projector next year but need to wait for the funds, in the meantime i figured my old presentation laptop would do the job.

I understand the hd fury will allow the pj to work via the hdmi, but the pj only has dvi input, no vga. so my question is will this still work with the vga output of the hd fury converted to dvi via an adapter?

i.e hdmi >>> hd fury (via hdmi/dvi adapter) >>> dvi input of the pj (via vga/dvi adapter)

also, does the hd fury require external power? can't seem to find a clear answer on this.

As long as the projector has DVI-I not DVI-D then yes it may work.

I wouldn't like to say it 'will' work as life can be full of surprises when you start mixing HDMI/DVI/VGA and non-HDCP devices

Re: HDMI into non HDCP compliant pj via HD fury

Hello chirorob

HDFury is one of the dwindling list of available HDCP strippers - some like the HDFury strip HDCP and convert to an Analogue Output; others keep the signal in the Digital domain.

CYP have the Vision FC4 HDMI to YUV/RGBHV and the Vision FCSC2 HDMI to DVI (with onboard format conversion) - see http://www.tmfsolutions.co.uk/cyp.htm

There is the potential for all of these devices to work without a problem in your system and also the chance that sometimes they simply wont work.

The HDFury can pull its power from the +5v rail on the incoming HDMI signal - though often that can cause problems and you then require the optional external PSU.

The CYP units both require the supplied external PSU to work correctly.

Re: HDMI into non HDCP compliant pj via HD fury

well i hooked up the hd fury to the DVI-I input of the projector via a vga / DVI-A adapter and got 2 seconds of xbox 360 logo in purple (not green) followed by the no input signal screen

is this indicative of requiring the external power or does it sound like the set-up won't work? the hdmi cable is 12m long

Re: HDMI into non HDCP compliant pj via HD fury

Hi there,

I had a similar result connecting an HD Fury to my plasma panel at 1080p without a power supply.

I picked up this: -

http://www.thegametrain.com/hdfury-u...ury-p-547.html

And it sorted the problem for me, just not sure if it will for you.

Cheers

Dan

Re: HDMI into non HDCP compliant pj via HD fury

Without question the best way to use the HD Fury is with the additional power supply. In particular when running 1080p resolutions.

The HD Fury was designed by a CRT Projector enthusiast .

The HD Fury has a DVI-D input . Use a HDMI to DVI adaptor if required or HDMI to DVI cable. The output is DVI-A . This means digital signal input and analogue signal output. There are three options for output cables supplied with the HD Fury.

There is one issue with the HD Fury that to date I dont think has been addressed - The Picture is often output by the HD Fury off to one side.

Re: HDMI into non HDCP compliant pj via HD fury

Thanks guys

the hd fury appears to have solved the issue with regard to the xbox - working perfectly.

however the dvd causes the message 1280x720 / 60hz out of range.

how do i change this?

Re: HDMI into non HDCP compliant pj via HD fury

sorry just not sure how to do this, and as i am unsure of the terminology etc i don;t really understand the problem to find a solution.

when i try to alter the dvd settings there is no obvious change of resolution available on the set up menu. I can alter the widescreen settings etc. and switch form PAL to NTSC but thats all.

Do i need to change something on the 606 settings.

getting frustrated as i still can't get this to work properly!!
