HDMI Extension/Coupler

Hi All

This post maybe better placed in another forum, so apologies.

Just have a quick question, would using one of these degrade the picture/sound??

---Such as this---

Just want to extend my 5M cable by 2M.

Thanks in advance

Re: HDMI Extension/Coupler

Personally I wouldn't. HDMI is complex enough, I would simply buy a longer cable. ukhdmi, bluejeanscable and most of the cable retailers stock cost effective HDMI cables that needn't cost the earth.

Re: HDMI Extension/Coupler

Cheers for the reply Davepuma.

The HDMI cable is kinda...fixed...in the wall! It reaches to where it needs to be, but I would just like a bit of extra slack.

Thinking about it, I don't see why it would degrade the picture, as it's digital. It would be different if it was an analogue connection. I guess it's only the same as passing the signal through a receiver (passthru).

Anyone had any experience with these couplers or extensions??

Re: HDMI Extension/Coupler

I disagree. It will be absolutely fine. I extended mine from 5m to 10m with no problems.

Re: HDMI Extension/Coupler

Fair point but not all HDMI signals are created equal. It really depends on the source, display and quality of cable. Try it and see I guess. You could always fit some form of repeater/extender if the signal doesn't reach in one piece. Joe in the cables forum is the whizz on these sorts of things.

Re: HDMI Extension/Coupler

It should work if your total length does not exceed 10m. Your cable would be 7m. Otherwise you need an active HDMI repeater (aka HDI amplifier); these cost rather more.
