Opinions/advice on HDMI Splitter

Ok have been looking at this on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/15CM-HDMI-MALE...QQcmdZViewItem

But im not sure how/if it would work.

My tv has just one hdmi input so im currently swapping the cable between my 360 and my skyhd, which doesnt bother me too much but im sure in the long run is doing my tv no good.

So.

Will the above cable work?

How does it know what signal to send?

What would happen if both my 360 and my skyhd were switched on at the same time.

Any help appreciated

Hmm... i would;nt recommend a passive device.. Also youre looking for a switch not a splitter.
Check Octava and Cablesson HDMI Switches

Re: Opinions/advice on HDMI Splitter

You might get lucky but that unit looks very familiar and I'm sure lots of people on here have had problems. Do a search and obviously check feedback, purchasing information and most importantly the returns procedure should it turn out to be a bag of bolts. I was asked to test a cheap re-branded HDMI unit and it failed miserably so when I came to buy one for myself, I stuck with a proven brand and went for an Oppo HM31 which I and several other members are more than happy with.

Re: Opinions/advice on HDMI Splitter

Hello Stretlow

With HDMI Switch gear your relying on all of your Devices (Source, Switch and Display) to play nice with each other.

HDMI was designed as an Active signal path so passive devises are not generally as System friendly as Active devices.

The first unit you link to requires that you only ever have one Active Source.

The Second unit has manual selector buttons to select Either or Source - in theory both Sources can be left active and you simply 'Toggle' between them.

How either unit will actually operate (or not) in your set-up is unknown - you will need to Purchase them and try them out before you can say if they will Integrate into your system or not.

Joe
