Just use it, there is no other way to tell.

There is nothing visible about a cable that can help you as 1.3 merely requires that it can handle a higher data rate.

Most short cables that are properly made will handle the requirements of 1.3 perfectly well regardless of if they are actually labelled as such.

You can't realisticaly find out or know unless of course the cable has it printed on it somewhere like this Neet one ... HDMI cable 1.3

Which goes someway to show you that its not really all that important if you can't tell ?

a 1.2 HDMI cable is compatable with and will work fine with 1.3 devices like a PS3 and newer TVs anyway so no worries ... especialy if your friend has 'given' it to you as that makes it a bargain
