Switch issue or not query

Having a basic setup of a TV, Sat Receiver, PS3 and Blu-Ray Player, I decided to sort the mess of cables out by reducing the number going to the TV (hdmi). To do this I purchased a cheap Kinovo 501BN hdmi switch. Now having plugged all the hdmi cables (slimwire) into the said switch, I find that If I want to switch from the TV to the PS3, thats ok, but when I want to revert back, to viewing the TV, the screen will go blank, that is the screen is just a snowy grey colour. To get the TV back I find I have to turn the TV off using the TV remote, then back on again.

Question:
Is this a problem that comes with using a cheap switch, or a switch that isn't working properly, and needs exchanging/replacing?

I get the impression that its more to do with the quality of the switch than anything else.

I take it you mean if you want to go back to the TV’s Internal Freeview or Freesat Tuner you lose the picture or are you trying to switch between the PS3 and Sat Receiver connected via the Switch?

Is there a power supply connected to the Switch?

Yes the switch gets power from the mains.

I get TV channels via the sat receiver, I don't use the internal freeview tuner.

The TV, sat box and PS3 and Blu-Ray player are all connected to the switch.
If I change say from the TV to either the PS3 or Blu-Ray player, I have no problem switching. But if I revert back to the TV, the screen just goes blank. To get back to the TV, if I press off on the TV remote and then switch it back on using the remote, then I get the TV back.

So it does work to a point, apart from switching back to the TV. So was wondering if this is down to the switch's inability to do this, or whether it has a problem.

Using ‘TV’ to describe the external Sat Receiver signal makes for confusing reading

So Sat, BD and PS3 via the Switch to the TV?

Ensure you have any HDMI ‘control’ or CEC features on the TV Disabled – which brand of TV do you have as they all have ‘pet’ names (Anynet, Vera Link, Bravia Link etc.) for CEC!

Then try powering off the whole system and leave powered off for a few secs before repowering!

If you are still having problems its worth powering down again and reorder the Sources into the Switch – you may find one combination (say Sat, BD, PS3 vs. PS3, Sat, BD) works when others don’t!

If all of that fails a better quality Switch may be the best option - Media Factory - Octava HDS3-UK, 3x1 HDMI switch

Have now tried reordered the connections with no change.

It would seem I need a better made switch.

So if I did, would this guarantee that there wouldn't be any switching problems?

Always tricky to say anything with 100% certainty where HDMI and its buddies HDCP and EDID are involved – though I can say we get very few problems with our Octava Switch gear and where we do we can usually resolve them with Firmware updates!
