Need help with HDMI distribution

I want to distribute the HD signal from Sky and PS3 around my home, I have been 'following' all the wireless HD senders and also considering going HDMI over Cat5.

My current set up is -
Sky 1TB box optical and HDMI to Yamaha Amp
Fat PS3 to TV, optical audio to Yamaha Amp

What I would like is -
Sky HDMI video and audio to two TV's upstairs
PS3 HDMI video and audio to one TV upstairs
in addition to the downstairs set up.

Of course I would need some kind of active splitter and a switcher so that I can choose between Sky or PS3 on one of the upstairs TV.

Looking at doing this with wireless HDMI senders would mean at least 2 pairs, plus a splitter (or two).

That's going to cost a lot, so maybe some kind of HDMI over Cat5 would be the cheaper alternative.

In addition to this I would want to be able to change the Sky channel from either of the two upstairs TV's. At the moment I have Sky on one upstairs TV using RF2.

Has anyone else been through this kind of decision - there seems to be a lot of components/options to look at.

TIA.

Controlling Sky on RF2 on more than one location is not a problem.

The HDMI I'm not up to speed on but I would suggest looking at a Matrix rather than a standard switch so that you can watch any combination of input on any output. Some will probably correct me but as I understand it with a standard switch if you're watching Sky on TV1 you will have to watch this on TV2 & 3 aswell, if you have a Matrix you can watch Sky on TV1 and PS3 on TV2, etc or any combination.

Mengez is correct – a system with an HDMI Matrix as the Central Hub is by far the most flexible option for this type of setup.

Forget about Wireless devices with HDMI In/Out – they are consistently useless; it’s a failed technology for the type of configuration you are considering.

An HDMI over Twisted Pair Matrix with routed IR is your most flexible option – use dual runs of CAT6 (Solid core, screened, unbroken runs) from your Central Hub out to each TV location and you will have a very flexible system.

Media Factory - Octava HDMX44CAT-UK, HD44CATMX-UK 4x4 HDMI CAT6 Matrix switch
