HDMI to S-Video connection

Hi all

I am thinking of getting a Virgin V+ recorder, it has SCART and HDMI connections.

I have an Epson EMP74L projector fixed to the ceiling with 15 metres of S-video cable connecting it to my current DVD recorder/player.

Is there a simple and cheap method of connecting the new HDMI output to my S-video cable?

BTW, the S-video cable goes through the wall and under the floor, there is no way I am going to change this cable or add a new one, far too complicated

Thanks in advance

Greg

Re: HDMI to S-Video connection

You will need to use the Scart out from the V+ box with a Scart to S-Video converter. Scart and S-Video are both Analogie signals where are HDMI is a high bandwidth digital signal which a) cannot run over the S-Video cable and b) is no use to you at the projector end unless your projector has an HDMI or DVI input.
The Scart to S-Video converter should be fairly easy to find.

Hope this helps

Re: HDMI to S-Video connection

Take care to check that the V+ box can send S-Video out over SCART.

A SCART to S-Video adapter is not a 'converter' it just allows SCART equipped devices that are able to send S-Video over SCART to be plugged into an S-Video cable.

Also make sure that you get the correct adapter or one that is switchable as SCART uses different pins for input and output so some adapters are one or the other, some can do both.

Re: HDMI to S-Video connection

Its worth noting too that some content on the V+ network is restricted to only being Output via HDMI - I don't have access to a V+ box so not sure what the current restrictions are but best to ensure its not something you want to view via the Projector.

Converting an HDMI signal to work with an S-Video socket is not a simple task you have to deal with 1. HDCP (encryption), 2. HD to SD and 3. RGB or YCbCr to S-Video format conversion.

Do you have a VGA feed to the Projector?
