VGA/DVI and regular speaker connector -> HDMI?

Hi guys,

Just wondering if it's possible to get a converter that will turn a DVI or HDMI signal, mix it with the regular speaker connector in a PC and put it into a single HDMI cable?

Not sure if that even makes sense, but also ideally I'd like it so if the HDMI is connected, audio and video will run through that onto the TV as well as the existing speakers/monitor, and if it isn't connected then the speakers and monitor will work fine too.

Or should I just invest in a proper HDMI card? (could be awkward as thinking of buying a mini case thing!)

Thanks

Re: VGA/DVI and regular speaker connector -> HDMI?

There are combiners/converters for most video + audio signals to HDMI.

The lower cost units will rely on the source video signal being in a compatible format for the HDMI Input on your Display (720p60, 1080p60 etc) others will also offer you some form of scaling or processing from PC (SXGA, XGA) to HDTV (720p60, 1080p60 etc).

You wont be using the 'Spk' outs from the PC it'll be DVI or VGA + Analogue Stereo (2RCA or 3.5mm) or Digital (Optical or Coaxial).

Most units wont offer you any sort of Passthru so you either require Dual outputs on the PC or some form of 'splitter' ahead of the 'to HDMI' converter.

Ah, many thanks Joe - quite a few things to take into consideration then!

I guess the best thing to do would be to simply make sure I don't buy a mini tower case and then get a cheap (£40?) graphics card with a HDMI output and then not worry about adapters, converters and everything else.

Thanks
