10m HDMI? - V+/PS3 - Dual Output - Matrix or Splitter?

Hi there,

With regards to my current set-up (2/3 HDMI Devices -> 2 Outputs), see link below. Could someone recommend a tried and tested, good value, 10m HDMI Cable please? (It'll initially be swapped manually, until I've worked out a splitter/matrix solution)...

2 HDMI Devices - 2 Output Screens. Matrix/Switch/Splitter Options?

Thanks,

Greg

The most common problem with installed HDMI cables is folk managing to pull the connector head off of the cable assembly.

Be careful about constantly plugging/unplugging a cable - you also risk damaging the sockets your working with.

BetterCables have CAT1 and CAT2 cables at 10m - Media Factory - Bettercables HIgh Speed CAT2 HDMI cables, 1m to 12m.

I'm having terrible problems with this

HELP!!!!!

I have a PS3 and V+ box connected (I wish!) via a 10m HDMI cable.

Initially I got a cheap 10 m cable (£10 -10m cable to TV is a EX-Pro Premium 10m Gold HDMI to HDMI Lead cable. HD Support 1080p – HDMI 1.3 (125283-49) Compliant. On the cable it says:- E301195 RJ AWM STYLE 20276 80 dec C RW-1 PAK HENG REV 1.3 HDMI Cable. It has a suppressor on each end).

TV connected direct to the V+ box the 10m cable was fine.
Connected direct to the PS3 the cable was ok but the signal wasn't very stable.

I connected via a auto switch and two 1 m cables (provided by Virgin) and although the switch detected which source was on - no picture at the TV.

So I tried a switch with a remote control and a power supply - that didn't work either, so I tried a manual switch. That was ok with the V+ box, though there were the odd white flickery pixels if you looked up close, but the PS3 didn't work - so I bought a better (£40) cable:-

Neet® Black Line - 10m HDMI to HDMI Cable - ** GENUINE 24awg ** - HIGH-SPEED 10.2Gbps - v1.3 - 1080p 1440p 1600p Full HD - ADVANCED HDMI LEAD

That was so chunky it wouldn't fit behind the TV on the wall so I had to purchase a 90 degree connector (a 'Monster' one).

Now, connected direct the TV is fine but the PS3 is unusable, loads of white flickery pixels and signal drops in and out (worse than the cheap cable!).

It seems the PS3 signal is weaker than the V+ box and the new more expensive cable is inferior, or is the worse signal at the TV due to the 90 degree connector I have to use with this cable?

Any ideas please? Can you boost the HDMI signal with an amplifier?

Hello dazzer_man

As you have found out HDMI over 10m is not always as straightforward as some folk would have you believe!

You can add a powered HDMI Extender to the far end of the signal run (next to the TV) to 'recover' rather than Boost the signal.

Alternatively you may find a higher quality HDMI switch with onboard signal EQ does the trick - it may be an idea to find a supplier who can deliver both options and arrange to return whichever is your second choice.

Media Factory - Octava HDS3-UK, 3x1 HDMI switch

Media Factory - Octava HDE-UK, HDMI cable extender
