HD Champions League Football

Hi,

Watched my first game on football delivered in HD last night (liverpool v chelsea). Wasn't the result I wanted by the picture was superb. It is like I have been watching a screen smeared with vasoline upto now.

I had decided to get right of sky mainly due to the poor quality pictures delivered when watching football. Could of moved to Sky HD but wasn't prepared to pay yet more money to just get a picture that enabled me to make out who was passing to who. In HD it is much easier to pick out players when the camera pans out to show the full width of the pitch.

Just need the BBC to deliver F1 and Match of the Day in HD and then I am happy!

Switching from SD to to HD is like night and day.

I can't understand why Match of the day isn't filmed in HD. I mean if the 'ladies no'1 detective agency' is then surely mottd would be worth it.

Think its probably something to do with the highlight rights that the BBC bought from the FA or Sky somehow blocking it. Would be nice to have.

Re: HD Champions League Football

Just watched my first game in HD at home today with United at Porto and the picture was stunning on my Toshiba 37RV555. And the result wasn't bad either

Ronny's goal!

Re: HD Champions League Football

Id imagine a lack of HD matches would be the reason for no Match of the day in HD. The cost to do all the games would be quite large.

We seem to be lagging behind in this country when it comes to HD. Sky brag that they have 32 hd channels but Direct tv in the US has 130!

The US has had broadcast HD for 11 years, we've had it for 3 so as with most technology the UK and Europe in general lags behind the two primary markets of Japan and America. The US HD market was strong enough to allow the development and market penetration of HD CRT's where as we virtually skipped that whole phase yet thanks to the BBC and PAL spec we had 16:9 widescreen which the US had to wait for HD to happen.
I've still never got over watching early I Love Lucy eps and seeing they had a remote control telly in the fifties

You sure about that? I thought Sky showed the Football First thing in HD on a Saturday, meaning the game they choose could be any one of the games played that day..

No, the game they show at about 8:30pm on a Saturday is never in HD.

Re: HD Champions League Football

yep. The FAPL hire a production company of there choise to be the host broadcasters for any game not shown live on Sky or Setanta at the moment. The BBC have nothing at all to do with the filming of matches.

Currently only Sky Hire HD OB's and Links to base to get there coverage in HD. Setanta and the FAPL only pay to get the games covered in SD. They May Hire HD OB's but don't produce a HD feed.
