Man Utd vs Porto ITV HD

Yet again was very impressed with ITV HD PQ for last nights match. Probably the best HD ive seen from Old Trafford for a long time. I know this season many people have stuck up for SKY and blamed stadiums for the poorer HD quality at times, but I think this proved last night that its nothing to do with the stadiums at all.

The Picture was excellent with very little noise and a very clean picture. I really cannott believe that it is only running at 10mbps for bandwith.

Well done yet again ITV.

Yes demonstarting with the advent of the new encoding hardware that bandwidth is no longer the critical factor in HD PQ for both live and recorded programming.
Enjoyable game as well

Very enjoyable game indeed. just hope the Barca vs Bayern game doesnt let me down tonight. This one could be a real treat. Going to be nice to see a decent picture from Spain.

Re: Man Utd vs Porto ITV HD

Having watched Skys feeble attempt at HD for the champions league, it pains me to say that ITV walked all over the quality of picture for me.

Skys was very misty on movement, especially on the barca game and appeared to be struggling from a lack of bandwith, and on the Liverpool game the crowd just did not stand out like on the ITV coverage.

Im just wondering if the stat muxing is working to its full effect??? The sky football coverage, expecially under flood lights is just nowhere near what it used to be. They need to sort it and quick.

Must be your TV mate coz I thought the PQ was Sky's usual superb quality. No mistiness and the crowd in the background was very sharp indeed

Re: Man Utd vs Porto ITV HD

Maybe it is the TV. Would explain why ITV looked fantastic and some other channels have looked great but sky sports poorer.

Or maybe its a fault with the boxes and they cant scale Sky Sports channels correctly???? My mate has same box and the picture looked poorer than ITV HD and poorer than it used to on sky.

Re: Man Utd vs Porto ITV HD

Hand on heart the Liverpool game was the best footy HD I've seen this year, everything from the grass, the crowd and the colours were everything you would want to demo the format.

Re: Man Utd vs Porto ITV HD

Ive decided im getting rid of the box again!. It must simply be a box issue with sky sports HD broadcasts.

Re: Man Utd vs Porto ITV HD

I can't imagine such a selective fault after all every channel in the SKY package is broadcast using the same encoders at the same spec, if there was a fundamental difference between processing ITVHD (and BBCHD or Luxe) then you would be seeing it on other PAY HD channels as well.

There are obviously inherent differences between the SKY and ITV footy broadcasts, you may simply prefer the look of the ITV offering.
