It is pretty poor, but its just a matter of time. Only certain GP's will be HD to begin with, with more following I guess.

I thought this was old news Bernie said as much at the end of last season.
I don't think BE will tolerate the BBC next season not providing HD coverage though.

The BBC don't have their own cameras at most of the circuits (maybe in Britain?) so it isn't really their fault it's not HD - just as it's not their fault that the local directors are rubbish! Just as something vaguely interesting begins to happen, they switch cameras to watch a car going round and round and round all by itself. Complain to the FIA, or Bernie Ecclescake - there's more than enough money in F1 to pay for new cameras at every circuit.

I heard that Ecclescake said there was no point in filming in HD ?!? ***? Just because he should have gone to Specsavers, don't take it out on the rest of us! |

Just to clear a couple of things up it is not the BBC's fault at all that there will be no F1 HD in 2009 BBC director of sport Roger mosey has said they will show it if they can get F1 productions who now film and produce all race coverage except for Japan and Brazil.
There is no broadcaster in the world that has access to the HD feed it is only shown in motorhomes of a select few and a couple of teams corporate areas
nobody in the broadcasting industry can understand why F1 management do not want to release the HD feed for broadcast as having seen it myself at Monaco last year I can say it is very impressive.
Although I have never been told this officially part of the reason ITV pulled out of F1 was the lack of HD coverage in fact they got let down they were told that they would be allowed to broadcast it on ITV HD via Freesat and they went ahead and commisioned the building of a top of the range dual path HD uplink unit and awarded the contract to SIS link to run this unit throughout europe but when it came to it F1 productions said they could not broadcast the feed and if they did would risk huge legal bills. So in fact the HD feed as onluy ever made it back to ITV in London as a technical test and the HD unit is now used on Sky sports European tour golf.
There are a large number of broadcaster around the world who want and will broadcast in HD once the HD feed is released. My personal feeling is that F1 productions are looking into launching their own premium HD F1 channel as they already have at least 15 months of archive footage to show as well and in fact have invested a further large amount in purchasing a new HD VT/EVS unit so that they can go fully tapeless and feature even more HD replays

F1 is already filmed in HD and has been for atleast 2 years now, it's just not available to anyone for broadcast purposes yet. My own suspicion is that the Bernie is toying with the idea of having his own HD PPV channel in certain regions. I may be wrong, but for the life of me I cannot think of any other reason why they would not want give the broadcasters access to the HD feed. In my tiny mind, it might actually help the popularity of the sport and bring in new viewers, but hey..maybe that's why Bernie is a billionaire and I'm skint.
And just to be clear to the OP, F1 is not the third highest watched event in the world. That's what Bernie wants you and more importantly the corporate sponsorship investors to think but it is simply not true. I am an avid F1 fan. I have many friends who are avid sports fans and only one of them is interested in F1...and that's only because he's English and he believes the media hype surrounding Lewis Hamilton. If it weren't for him, he wouldn't be watching.

I find football to be the most boring sport in the world, it's all a matter of taste and opinion so get off your high horse.

Calm down.. I notice you didnt accuse the other poster of being on his high horse when he criticised the showing of in the night garden..
Yes it is a matter of opinion, i was just stating my opinion which I am perfectly entitled to do.

It had nothing to do with 'in the night garden' either, you're just knocking the sport for the sake of it when others who do watch it are trying to discuss and understand why it's not being broadcast in a format that we, the people who do actually watch F1 want it to be shown in.
Is that clear to you?

It's not about owning the message boards. What you're saying is that it's ok to troll, go off topic but it's not ok for others to point out that it's unnecessary? Really? Why don't you stick to discussions that do interest you instead of wasting not only our time, but your own aswell?
BTW, I'm glad that in the night garden is shown in HD because both of my very young children love it and if I have to suffer it then atleast it looks pretty. |
