2009 NASCAR in HD?

I see the Daytona 500 is in HD again this year, but does anyone know if Sky are going to show more races in HD through the rest of the season? Done a trawl of the usual places and google but no joy.

Thanks in advance.

Re: 2009 NASCAR in HD?

Most of the races last year were just 16:9 SD even on the Sky Sports HD. I know the duels on Thursday and the 500 is definitely in HD but i don't know about the rest.

Or maybe i'm wrong and theyre gonna change it this year

Re: 2009 NASCAR in HD?

Watched the 2 Gatorade Duel races today and was impressed with the quality. You could make out teeny pieces of debris on the track and how shiny were the cars at the start?

May just persuade me to keep Sky Sports if all the races are going to be this quality!

Re: 2009 NASCAR in HD?

Excellent coverage of Daytona, I'm not a hardcore fan so the studio banter and style don't phase me as much as it does for some others.
Shame about the weather and the incident which took out my favourite driver, enough said for those who may not have seen it yet

No HD for next weeks race nor the A1.

Re: 2009 NASCAR in HD?

I often wonder why Sky insist having their own studio team when covering US sports rather than just using the US feed?? Especially as ESPN America (formerly NASN) just shows the US broadcast as is, apart from the ads obviously.
That said, I did notice a few US studio segments sneak through last night.

I always thought it was due to rights issues but that doesn't explain how ESPNA show the whole shebang, including Sportscenter segments which is apparently a rights nightmare due to the different sports.

Anyhoo, it was a shame about the weather. It was gearing up to be a good ending. I have to say that, as much as I like him, if anyone else had caused that wreck I think they would have been penalised. Even the commentators did a flip flop!! Be interesting to see the fallout from it and post race opinion.

Re: 2009 NASCAR in HD?

Well I have just had a look at listings for next week and again Sky sports are not showing Nascar in HD this is getting very annoying now they really do not seem to care at all about their motor racing fans wanting to see their favourite sports in HD.

Its not just Nascar the same applies to other motorsports like A1 GP and Speedway GP all of which are shown worldwide in HD but yet Sky give us SD coverage . They can not even show the UK based Elite league speedway in HD which I think makes it the only live Uk based weekly sport that Sky dont show in HD which frankly is becoming unacceptable I am now of the view that they just do not care about showing motorsports in HD

Re: 2009 NASCAR in HD?

I agree, motorsport is far from the favoured child of SKY Sports but then no one else in the UK treats it any better and I include F1 in that.

Re: 2009 NASCAR in HD?

Am sure NASCAR fans in the US get it in HD and sure the cameras are too unless they have SD ones too and these transmissions get sold elsewhere ie UK.

Surely can't be that hard for Sky to buy and transmit the HD version!

SKY do get the HD feed.

I can only accept the issue raised in another thread in terms of SKY having limited fully integrated HD studio support to handle the amount of HD feeds that have access too. The new studio facilities are under construction but won't be complete for a while yet, of course the fact SKY are making serious cash out of the HD sub begs the question there must be a work around.
