Robin Hood (Errol Flynn)

Has anyone else caught this, only saw it by chance that it was on this morning at 5.20am. For a movie that is 71 years old it looks very good, colours especially, I caught a glimpse of the SD version the other day, massive difference. There's a hint or grain & some of the sets you can now tell are fake. I was a bit surprised by the black bars at the side initially but checked the blu-ray review on here & the ratio is 1;33;1.

to any fans

Most of the old classics like Gone With the Wind and The Wizard of Oz were released with a 4:3 (or thereabouts) aspect ratio.

The Technicolor on this film is very vivid isn't it? Quite stunning really, for its age.

Absolutely & the background detail as well.

If I had to have a gripe, the ratio.

But that's how it was made. Would you rather they zoomed in to fill a 16:9 screen and therefore miss the top and bottom of the picture?

No, not at all, just saying if there was something to complain about as I've had a widescreen Tv etc for 10 years so it takes a bit of getting used to.

Re: Robin Hood (Errol Flynn)

One of the first movies I bought on HD DVD, the restoration is magnificent and it's probably this new master that has created the broadcast version.
