Doctors to launch on BBC HD
Doctors, the weekday soap. airs in HD on BBC HD from 16 February.
Because BBC HD does not run in the afternoon when the series is on BBC 1 the BBC HD airing is at 6 pm.
This is the first soap (other than Hollyoaks on Channel 4) to go out in HD and BBC HDs first five day a week year round series. Although Digiguide only shows it as being on for 3 days in the first week?

Re: Doctors to launch on BBC HD
I'm not sure what the value of making this programme in HD is, given that there are better candidates for the HD treatment, but I would have watched if Corrinne Wicks had still been in it.
By-the-way, there's a forum for posts related to programmes.

Ha ha, yes the 16:9 widescreen format was made with people like her in mind!

I realise that but I thought this was a landmark in BBC HD broadcasting (first round the year programme on the channel) and that people who do not usually check programme forums would be interested in the news.

Doesn't matter! This is the wrong forum! (Of course, I'm being sarcastic because I know hardly anyone reads that forum and it's largely redundant, hence the wink).

Re: Doctors to launch on BBC HD
This has to be one of the worst programmes on TV. What on earth possessed the BBC to waste our licence fee on this absolute s..t in SD. Now to waste more money filming it in HD is beyond a joke.

Re: Doctors to launch on BBC HD
Why has this thread been allowed to stay here and yet my similar thread in the freesat forum has been moved to the HD programmes section?

Re: Doctors to launch on BBC HD
Surely Casualty and Holby city in HD would be the more sensible option? The biggest two regular dramas on BBC apart from Eastenders.
I guess it comes down to cost.

Re: Doctors to launch on BBC HD
There are a number of UK based programmes that the BBC commision that are filmed in HD yet they choose not to show them in this format Drs is a prime example of this, another good two examples are BBC Question time on Thursdays and BBC Big questions On Sunday both are filmed live and produced in HD by Arqiva but yet the BBC decide not to show them like this which is quite annoying especially when BBC HD is just showing a repeat of something thats been on before which tends to happen on a frequent basis, this has got to be a waste of license fee as they must pay extra to Arqiva to film in HD and uplink the HD feed this is not a new thing eiether it has been done like this since April 08

Seriously? Question Time is often the worst (SD) picture on all week, usually soft and blurry. A complete waste of time and money to produce it in HD, although ironically, the same could be said about a lot of the people who appear on it.

Re: Doctors to launch on BBC HD
Yes QT and the Big questions are produced by Mentorn media for the BBC both are filmed by Arqiva using HD OB unit 7 which has 12 HD cameras if i remember correctly only done one QT before as not very often in the midlands area at a fibre point.
Below is a copy of the press release that was in trade magazine Broadcast back in Dec 07
Arqiva for Mentorn
Arqiva’s HD OB business has won
contracts from Mentorn to shoot
and provide the uplinks for the
new BBC religious and ethical
affairs show The Big Questions,
and the long-running political
panel show Question Time.
Armed with a 5.1 sound desk
supplied by Calrec and up to 12
Sony HDC-1500 cameras, the
truck has been designed to run
off a small footprint. Both of
the BBC’s shows will be
originated and uplinked in HD.
Question time editor Ed Harvard
is said to be delighted to be finally
working in high definition for the first time.
