Guys, Just a quick heads up, The Guns Of Navarone is on today at 12:00 on Sky Screen 1 HD.

I hope they done a good job

Hi there - if memory serves they have shown this before in HD and it was a mixture of grainy in dark scenes and very good in interior shots..but I could be remembering this from a dream ;0

No you're right - though there's nothing wrong with grain (as it's actually part of the film stock and on there anyway), it's not been taken from a very good master source - so the pisture isn't very satble either and flickers a lot in dark and light scenes...not the best example of HD I've seen.

The movie did have a full restoration a few years back but there are always limits especially older movies which may have inherent grain/noise which could only be removed by "sandblasting" the image remove most of the finer detail in the process.
I watched when it premiered on SKY HD and overall wasn't that impressed but in hindsight the restoration was perhaps as good as it could be given the circumstances.
