Re: King Kong ITV HD Sat 6th September

A little surprised over the runtime, it's either been chopped to bits or ITV are simply putting the same amount of ads in a 3 hour movie as they do in a F1 race. Good to see Digiguide adding FreesatHD tag to the information as well and what a pity that BBC1 are showing Shrek but no sign of a HD broadcast

Ofcom's new rules started last Sunday, they are now allowed a break 30 minutes after the start of the previous break, so about every 26 minutes of film.

With the film's runtime of 179 minutes, they will be allowed six breaks of 3m 50s (total 23 minutes). So total runtime is 179 +23 = 202 (3h 22m) and film was in a 3h 25m slot which allowed three minutes at the end of film, before next programme.

That is true with hour long programmes and the dropping of the 20 minute rule. Still three breaks of 3m50s, but now with better placement to suit US fadeouts and not to have the first and last breaks so near to the beginning and end of the programme.

However, before September 1, with films, there had to be a gap of 45m between the start of consecutive breaks of 3m50s. That has now changed to 30m, allowing more breaks in a film.
