As above. According to the new Radio Times, it will be shown in HD as well. This is the film I have used when demoing new dvd players. It'll be worth recording to see how much of a difference there will be between my remastered dvd and C4 hD version.

It was filmed at Duxford long before it was a museum, they blew a hangar up which I'm sure has been regretted since the event. I believe the hangars are all listed buildings now. I used to live there in MQ during the early '70's and it's quite fun spotting which buildings I recognise. It would be rude not to watch it again in HD.

Didn't know it was Duxford. Thanks. However, most of the aerial shots were filmed in Spain. According to the DVD blurb this was because the weather was more predictable regarding blue skies etc. One 3 minute film sequence might take 3 days to film.....imagine getting 3 days of blue sky weather in the UK!
The other piece of trivia was that because of all the aircraft begged, borrowed etc, they had assembled the 25th largest air force in the World! Spain also had some left over german ww2 planes that were still being flown as trainer aircraft so with a little bit of painting were reverted back to their original status.

BTW, the film itself is good as well!!!!!!

I wouldn't say it looked HD unless the synopsis said so I would assume it was another SD programme on C4HD.

Probably an off the shelf transfer form a second rate master.
The Blu-ray scores fairly poorly on the image front as well and as we have seen a number of studios are looking to cash in on HD with no investment in restoring older catalogue titles to maximise their quality.

Well I thought the quality looked pretty damn good for a movie 30+ yrs old, good saturated colours and fairly shrp in detail.
I was just looking at the much newer Armageddon on BBC HD and to me that looked like it has been upscaled, very poor quality

Sorry to read the recording crashed 3/4 of the way through. Without giving the ending away.....we won!
On a more serious note, I have only watched the first minute and am slightly annoyed that whilst everything suggests it was a proper HD transmission, C4 used the old version. This film a few years ago was subjected to a proper re-mastering with 5.1 sound.
Imagine my disbelief when C4s version played back in pro logic and that the PQ was full of all the specks and scratches you normally associate with older film stock. This was not the re-mastered version. It's even available now on Bluray so how hard is it for C4 to track down a remastered version for broadcasting?
I haven't as yet done my comparison. Will do so later on.
