Liverpool match on Sky Sports HD

I haven't had the chance to watch any football in HD yet, but I'm watching tonight's Liverpool friendly on Sports HD.

What should I be seeing? It looks only mildly better than the SD picture and is disappointing overall. Is this because it's not true HD and is being upscaled? It's a game played in Spain, so could that explain it?

Re: Liverpool match on Sky Sports HD

Press the i button, if the program is true HD then you will se HD In the top right of the on screen graphic. If its not present then its just upscaled SD.

edit. just checked the EPG and this game is upscaled SD.

Ahhhhhhh..... thanks. Only a W on the graphic, so it's not HD. Bit of a relief really. :D

Re: Liverpool match on Sky Sports HD

The match is on Sky Sports HD but its just the normal signal. Presonally I would prefer the channel to show nohting than show a mix

Re: Liverpool match on Sky Sports HD

I only subscribed to Sports yesterday and one of the reasons for doing so was to see this match in HD. I'm dying to see some football in HD, but I guess I'm going to have to wait a little longer.

Thanks again all.

Re: Liverpool match on Sky Sports HD

The game on the sports HD channel for this game may only be SD upscaled but because the transmission bitrate of the channel is far higher than the normal skysports channel the picture is still better than the SD channel (eg. less compression artifacts) that even though not HD is better than SD.

It is slightly better, especially on still, close-up pictures. But the moving image still blurs slightly on my TV, which was what was worrying me.

I've stopeed watching now anyway. I'm watching Gary Rhodes in China instead!!

It's only Sky Sports HD that do this, but they stretch a 4:3 picture to 16:9 and put W on the EPG. So annoying.

The Sky Sports SD version in being shown correctly in 4:3.

Yep, absolutely true. The Ladies Golf on Eurosport HD looked really good, despite being upscaled. I had to check the 'i' button to make sure it was SD!
