Speedway World Cup in HD
After the excellent British speedway Grand prix in HD on Monday 14th July Sky sports will be broadcasting the Speedway worl cup match in HD on Sky sports 1 at 19:30
The quality of the grand prix was really good I thought and im sure this will have the same good quality picture.

I can always rely on you Uno - top man. This will be a real tester - are the chaps concerned about the lighting at Brandon? If not, could we see regular league action in HD very soon?

Re: Speedway World Cup in HD
Well from when I have done the speedway at Brandon the lighting is one of the better tracks so should not give too many problems although they may install some more temp lights in pits so that action comes out well.
With regards to regular Elite league well Sky have shown most promotors how good HD is with British gp and Danish Gp footage but they need them/stadium owners to install more lighting although some are ok already the positive thing about it is Sky have said the same to Greyhound stadiums that they feature live on Tv and as quite afew tracks have both sports it may possibly get done for next season.
The contract for league racing ends in October 08 so I expect HD to figure strongly in Sky Sports pitch to retain the Elite league in 2009 and i would imagine they will get Arqiva to provide the facilities gain, strong bids are expected by Setanta as well and it is looking quite likely they will have a HD channel running by oct/Nov 08 and to get the Elite league in HD they may offer to provide money towards lighting upgrades or hire in for meetings

Re: Speedway World Cup in HD
Thanks for that information Uno, very interesting as usual.
Enjoy the meeting - Great Britain are up against it tonight but hopefully, riding at Brandon may prove an advantage.

Re: Speedway World Cup in HD
Superb coverage and it was interesting seeing the lighting change as it was more or less daylight to being with and night at the end.
And Great Britain got hammered in High Definition!!
Embarrassing ....

Re: Speedway World Cup in HD
Well I watched in full and thoroughly enjoyed the Cardiff presentation a couple of weeks back.
Personally I didn't think the PQ on this meet was nearly as good and stopped watching after about 20 mins.

i think you're right. The light at first was fine but nearer the end it lost a lot of the effect ... still, it would have been hard to top Cardiff.

Re: Speedway World Cup in HD
I think the picture quality from Coventry was good as is with all HD productions anything in natural light is best but I think once under lights the picture quality was more than acceptable and I dont see any reason why ant future elite matches from Coventry could not be done in HD the same applies to Poole as lighting good there as well and as previously mentioned Sky are keen to improve the lighting at a number of Greyhound stadiums that host both dogs and speedway so that both sports can move to HD on a regular basis.

Re: Speedway World Cup in HD
Absolutely agree - the PQ was more than acceptable and a good result for the Elite League coverage by Sky.
Were you there Uno?
