The quality is amazing. It was actually the first thing I bought to watch on my PS3. Some of the shots you can't help but think, "how in the hell did they get that shot?"

Re: Planet Earth blu-ray.

It was all done with mirrors - Benchmark stuff (but I think Disc 5 was a let down)

Re: Planet Earth blu-ray.

I'm sure I saw one of the 'making of' clips where they showed this amazing heli-gymbal (sp?) that was gyro-stabilised and mounted on a helicopter. The lenses and stabilisation were so damn good that they could zoom right in on something miles away - a huge advantage for nature stuff as the animals don't even really hear the helicopter. The one with the lost baby elephant walking away from the water near the Okavango Delta where they panned out and out until you saw the whole dry, dusty plain was a particularly memorable shot.

Don't have the Blu ray disk set but I'm sure it'll be on there somewhere.

the HD DVD version of this is only in 720p/1080i, is the blu ray the same or is it 1080p

Well on the back of the box it says 1080i but on my PS3 it plays at 1080p@24Hz.

Re: Planet Earth blu-ray.

funny the HD DVD also plays back @ 1080p/24hz, i think that may be upscaling ?

EDIT : whatever it is its still looks as good as any 1080p source ive seen

That's odd , on the back of my HD DVD version it states "High Definition 1080p" Maybe because i have the 4 disc American version
