F1 In HD

Is anybody aware whether ITV will be broadcasting this years F1 coverage in HD?
With the launch of ITV HD around the same time as Freesat it would be a marvelous vehicle(forgive the pun) for the new service.

Mods feel free to move this query if I have put it in the wrong thread.
Dave.

Re: F1 In HD

Almost all the current F1 feeds are HD. Bernie's 1080 trucks are at almost every race. Whether ITV will buy the HD feed is anybody's guess. I really hope they do, the SD ITV picture is pants on Sky and Freeview.

Cheers,
Stephen

Re: F1 In HD

i watched a sample of last years race in Japan in HD

wow!! looked amazing!

but as mentioned before - given that itv's SD picture is soo bad the chances of HD... nah..

would have been great if the Sky F1 channel was still around - that would have been HD for sure!!

Re: F1 In HD

Even if ITV do not buy the HD feed it would still look pretty good on their Hd channel launching in the spring, it would be upscaled though.

So do you reckon ITV will simulcast their SD channel? As you say an upscaled version of F1 should look good, sun, exotic locations, imagine monaco in HD, and the night race would be a definate help in HD.

Hope so

I watch ER on Ch4HD and that is upscaled SD and looks pretty good to my eyes.

I remember the HD demo in Comet a couple of years ago showing benetton in the pits in HD, it looked amazing

Re: F1 In HD

I emailed ITV today via their F1 website regarding the prospect of F1 being covered in HD, their response was,
" we have no knowledge of any HD broadcasting yet, so cannot help any further, ITV duty office."
bodes well....!

Re: F1 In HD

There was a thread on this during last season, but i dont recall any concrete conclusions.

Do i recall that we had a race in widescreen last year - or was that a dream ??
