Material in 1080P

Having bought a 1080P capable TV, I'm now confused about how I can view material in 1080P. Sky HD only outputs in 1080i (according to the SKY HD setup menu). Is it just HD DVD??? (and of course Blu-ray)

Re: Material in 1080P

The only way to get 1080p presently is from:

HD DVD Player
Blu Ray player
Games consoles (Xbox 360 + PS3)
Computer

1080i is also the highest they get in America, many say that 1080p is very unlikely to be broadcast.

Re: Material in 1080P

The PS3 is a pretty good way to get 1080p from Blu-ray. Check out the various threads from the hi def disc sections.

The TV just deinterlaces it, same resolution, so I would not bother, just be happy....

Re: Material in 1080P

Interesting article on 1080p.

I hope you didn't swallow the marketing blurb without going to watch someting first....

http://www.audioholics.com/education...f-human-vision

1080p won't be broadcast for a while, if at all. It's not about resolution anyway, it's about panel PERFORMANCE. A good HD-ready (1024x768) plasma would murder an average 1080p LCD or low-end plasma every day of the week.

1080p sets are, generally, bad SD performers as well.

Someone should compile a list of questions for noobs to ask when they go into Comet or Currys so thye don't get 1080p'd.

Re: Material in 1080P

I would suggest that both bitrate and bandwidth compression make a massive difference to "broadcast" hd content, meaning it doesn't matter if the programme is 720/1080i/p some of the programmes we are getting are really not being broadcast in hd properly, as the picture quality is pretty awful (Jools Holland New Years Eve prog being very poor quality picture, where this is normally a stand out picture, it was clear from the artifacting that this was particularly poor.)

Agreed - the standard was very poor on this show.

Re: Material in 1080P

Bablyon, Torchwood, a lot of the previous Beeb HD stuff seems to have taken a tumble in terms of PQ, lots of noise generally, some of it looks very poor.
