No Festival or Remembrance tonight, nor the Cenotaph tomorrow morning on BBC HD. Two more wasted opportunities from the BBC to show high-profile, nationally important spectacles in high definition.

Makes you wonder what they're doing over there. Oh yes, showing repeats of the same old tired stuff. You can never have enough Torchwood.

Totally agree Martin, completely missed, or more likely ignored, opportunity to show a great spectacle to great effect, complimented with surround sound for the guns n drums.

The sods likewise ignored the Lord Mayors Show, another chance to bring the world into the lounge and create the sense of being there.

Mustn't be ungrateful I suppose, because apart from Torchwood there is the added bonus of Robin Hood.

What I don't get is that the BBC is under threat for producing, well, crap, not to put too fine a point on it. Those in the government who decide at what level to set the license fee and whether we have one or not, are looking to the BBC to move back to what it does best and away from the trash you'll find on the likes of BBC Three.

National events like these are the sort of thing the BBC should be pulling out all the stops on, not just because of the visual spectacle, but because they'd be an excellent bargaining chip for their company. How are they ever going to "sell" HD to the powers that be if they don't take advantage of it.

Me thinks you are maybe forgetting the meaning of the event. Are you planning to invite your mates around to show them how great the guns sound in 5.1?

Back to the topic started by Martin, I completely agree, these are the events that the BBC could be trusted to devote their best resources to once, now even there culture channel (Four) looks crummy compared to Sky Arts.

I live well north of Watford but remember watching the Lord Mayor's Parade every year, live. It used to take up Swap Shop's timeslot, then they broadcast it as part of Swap Shop as it grew popular with the kids.

You don't have to live in London to watch Trooping the Colour either, or Wimbledon, or the proms, or concerts from Wembley or... you get the idea.

If they are HD fans, probably they will, for the same reasons that I would watch something from "North of Watford" if it puts HD technology to good use and makes for an interesting transmission

Most sane people on this forum are keen to see the development of our favoured medium taken to it's best use and all it's possibilities explored, this may mean some of the time that there are programmes that do not relate to their own geographical area, most grown - ups can cope with this.

Martins' complaint was that the BBC is not covering properly a national event of great importance to many of us, that's why he started the thread and correctly chose an HD discussion group to raise the issue and discuss it in an orderly manner, it follows then, that contributions to the discussion would relate to HD technology and how it could be used by our national broadcaster on a significant state occasion.

This forum is mainly for technical discussion of SkyHD as you say so moving this thread to its rightful place which is here
