La Liga in HD?

On HD with HD in the info, but no HD on the DOG.

Doesn't look like HD, but instead decent upscaled SD to me.....which is a big improvement on the youtube of previous years.

Re: La Liga in HD?

Its deffo SD. They didnt advertise it as HD on revista midweek either. Altho EPG as racing vs Valencia as HD it does have the Sevilla vs Real game as SD.

Not sure why theres no HD though. Its not like theres any HD sport elsewhere at the mo. Very strange. Even the NFL is SD only even tho its clearly an HD feed downscaled. Some HD upgrades tonight????

Re: La Liga in HD?

I didn't think that the Racing v Valencia match looked HD even though the EPG stated that it was. I hope that the La Liga HD wasn't just a temporary arrangement. The 2 games on Saturday evening looked fantastic and I would say the PQ on both was slightly better than Sky's normal UK football broadcasts.

Re: La Liga in HD?

At the moment it is hard to figure out why some La Liga and NFL games are HD whilst others are not when they all seem to come from what I imagine to be HD feeds. It would be helpful if Sky would explain.

For example next weeks NFL games are HD but the following week SD. Go figure!

It's sometimes down to what HD enabled studios are available for presentation. They can't mix an HD feed into an SD studio show.

I have heard this reason put forward a lot but it doesn't really hold water. ESPN's Prem coverage mixes SD and HD cameras, studios and everything but as long as the actual coverage from the main camera is HD most people see this as acceptable and better than no HD at all. The same could be done for HD feeds of La Liga and the NFL, there must be another reason.

It's an internal policy. It was imperative for ESPN to show the matches in HD so they use a clumsy SD/HD workaround.

Re: La Liga in HD?

Clumsy or not the game is in HD which for those people with a big screen tv is the important bit. I don't even bother watching NFL or La Liga if it is in SD as the PQ is often so poor (this year the upscaled PQ is better). Maybe Sky should look at their policy in the short term until they have sufficient studios as going.

Re: La Liga in HD?

Even if Sky have decided that they will only broadcast HD matches if HD studios are available then this doesn't add up either. There was no other HD sports on Sunday evening as far as I can recall so surely the HD studios would have been available.

Re: La Liga in HD?

Well I dont know what HD studios were in use but they were using the norm HD studio they have been using for la liga as usual and also there was nothing else hd at the time.

Maybe its just down to cost??

And who cares if 5 mins of studio footage is SD.

I totally agree. I wouldn't really be that bothered if there was no studio footage at all.

I have emailed Sky today to enquire what their stance is on this. My worry is that the HD coverage of La Liga might have been only temporary.

Re: La Liga in HD?

Looks like normal service has been resumed. Both the Saturday matches are HD.
