An article in this months F1 Racing magazine confirms that the Abu Dhabi race will be broadcast in HD as a trial for full coverage next year.

It is filmed in HD but FOM has never released the HD feed for broadcasters. Any F1 on HD channels in other countries is just an upscaled version.

Knowing the Beeb they'll find some reason NOT to be able to show it in HD.

Quite right, there are plenty of Hotel Babylon and Bleak House repeats that deserve priority

Re: Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to be in HD

Well done BBC and Bernie Ecclestone. Yes! I would much rather you use my licencing money to show me a preview of BBC HD rather than the real race.

Get with the times! It's laughable!

Re: Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to be in HD

Does anyone actually know that the BBC have been offerred the race in HD and chosen not to show it?

From what I remember hearing from the BBC HD person on the radio earlier this year, the BBC are very keen to boost the amount of HD sport as they see sport as one of the biggest areas for HD - they talked about committing to the Open in HD from next year, getting F1 in HD etc.

It is possible that the F1 group see HD as an increased money making exercise and therefore want to have HD as an addition subscription only service - letting the Beeb have it would be detrimental to that approach.

Or that the BBC was offerred it, but at an additional cost that could not be justified for the number of F1 viewers who have HD.

Any news on if the worlds most technologically advanced sport is going to be broadcast in a 21st century format next season?
