Does BBCHD ever show any films?

hey All
Does BBCHD ever show any films?
I cant see any in the schedule, what with ITVHD only showing about 1 a week, I think films are very poorly dished out around HiDef Freesat channels.

Re: Does BBCHD ever show any films?

You are absolutely right. Ar the secretly promoting sky? Perhaps film licenses are higher on HD. It would be nice if Film4 went HD.

Re: Does BBCHD ever show any films?

Wasn't it BBC HD that showed Pirates of the Caribbean:Curse of the Black Pearl a couple of weeks ago?

I agree though, there are very few films shown in HD by either ITV or BBC.

ITV HD shows a fair number, and quite decent ones. Carlito's way is on tonight.

Re: Does BBCHD ever show any films?

BBC HD is not allowed to show many films, due to the rules set out by the BBC Trust.
I believe this is to stop "unfair competition" with the dedicated Movie channels.

Re: Does BBCHD ever show any films?

A couple of weeks back there were several HD films on both ITV and BBC in the space of a week. I was hoping this was a sign of things to come, but alas, no.

They show Hollywood films typically at Christmas, Easter etc. - but not very often (the recent BBCHD movies were from "independents" I believe).

I have seen "Kill Bill" and (2 parts of) "Indiana Jones" on BBCHD (plus the recent POTC)

This sounds like utter rubbish to me.

BBC1 show films (Copycat was on the other night) so what difference would it make if BBCHD showed a few more too?

Unfair for whom? We pay for TV license don't we? Why should we have to pay extra for HD too?

Re: Does BBCHD ever show any films?

I guess it is unfair to the movie channels... but as you say, unfair to us Freesat users.

Googling, I found this, and many other sites with the same press release..
HDTV UK: BBC Trust approves BBC HD mixed-genre high definition TV channel
Quote:
The channel should be a mixed genre high definition channel. The channel will allow for up to 20% of sport and film content and should not become a head-on competitor for sports and movie HD channels.

Re: Does BBCHD ever show any films?

The Sky movies channels face competition in SD too from FILM4 and the occasional movies in BBC and others but seem to cope quite well.
Why should there be no alternative to SKY movies HD?

Re: Does BBCHD ever show any films?

I'm reading this thread 10 days after last reply, but am quite surprised that ITV HD are showing 3 films tonight!
9:30 You,Me And Dupree
11:50 The Jerk
1:30 Missing
If only they had this many programmes every day/night!!

Re: Does BBCHD ever show any films?

Movies are a cheap schedule filler for ITV aside from the terrestrial premieres, not quite as bad as Five and their how many movies can we fit in between noon and midnight eforts but not far off but respect to ITV for paying whatever premium is required to secure HD masters.

No reason what so ever but BBC HD is under financial constraint so paying higher prices for movies to get them in HD may be considered as bad business when producing UK content is the priority.

Re: Does BBCHD ever show any films?

I've seen Finding Nemo, Becoming Jane, Good Night and Good Luck, Curse of the Black Pearl and the Steve Coogan Tristram Shandy film on BBC HD. ITV HD showed a couple of Star Wars films last year, and some Rambo films this year. Also Carlito's Way.
