Espn hd

Hi

I recently upgraded to receive this channel but so far I have not came across any HD material.

Has anyone seen HD content on this channel?

Re: Espn hd

The channel was very much a rushed launch. The premer league football will be/is in HD and I'd imagine more and more content will be in HD, especially the baseball playoffs and the World Series.

Re: Espn hd

All I have seen is the Everton v Arsenal game last week in HD.

I agree to be fair it was a rushed launch, the channel was only conceived in June when Setanta went bust, thats only weeks to get everything setup.

It will come! I hope.....

Re: Espn hd

We should hopefully get the UFC finally in HD a week on Saturday. For me on the HD front they've pretty much delievered what I was expecting i.e. EPL & SPL in HD.

Re: Espn hd

The Dundee United v Hearts game was in HD too, though not advertised as such on the EPG.

Re: Espn hd

Just checked Digiguide and only the EPL LIVE games (not the later reruns of these) are shown as in HD between now and 4 September (as far as the listings go on there) (although there are a lot of TBAs from 1 September on).

UFC 102 is not listed as HD. Nor is any other live sport.

However, SPL matches which ARE in HD (given the first one) are also not shown in HD.

As I understand it ESPN are still building their studios with HD playout facilities as they have not had enough time to do that since the rather sudden (in TV terms) build up to launch.

They said from the off that HD might be delayed (September was mooted).

The reason we get EPL and SPL in HD for the live feed is that Sky are doing these for ESPN. But the ESPN pre game and post game stuff is still in SD (upscaled) until the studio is ready. This will be why the reruns of the game are not HD either - as they need the HD playout facilities first to do that.

The same for all the things they are getting in via HD feeds (like much of the baseball), It comes in as HD and is upscaled into very nice pictures (better than the SD) but until they have the playout studios built it cannot go out here IN HD.

That is my understanding of the situation.

Re Studio's..

My understanding is for the Everton Game they used a hired BBC studio in the main BBC centre which did not have HD production facilities.

P.S. I did not know the BBC hired studios out?

I believe it was actually at IMG in Chiswick...the same place where they make the Football League show for the BBC.

As I understand it IMG are doing the studio production whilst SKY are doing the match production although of course SKY actually use an OB company.

As for HD we hopefully can expect most of the content they've been getting HD feeds for to be shown HD.

Although only (I think) the Bundesliga (beyond EPL/SPL) has definitely been announced by ESPN.

Re: Espn hd

ESPN HD is showing live MLB right now in very nice HD. Other games have had good upscales but this appears real HD.

So they seem to have got their facilities up and running.

Their three channels are all showing the game and switching from 430 (ESPN A) via 417 (ESPN) to 442 (ESPON HD) is fun.

You are probably right, i knew it was a studio used for sd production for the bbc. I assumed it was a bbc studio.

Ive just switched my V+ box on and straight away you can tell its HD
It actually has "ESPNHD" across the bottom of the screen so i'm gonna guess that will show up only when its in HD.

Lovely picture..with that nice "3D depth" feel to it.

Re: Espn hd

MLS was also in what could have been HD last night as well. It had the ESPNHD logo and was either HD or a very good upscaled picture.
