C4hd

C4 have been broadcasting some programs lately with excellent PQ, especially come dine with me. Its been better than anything on BBCHD (which seems to be slightly worse than it used to be).
Has anyone else noticed?

Re: C4hd

BBCHD uses older encoders which run off bandwith lower than it did at launch. The outcome of the bandwith reduction was the quality was decrease. Although the quality has gone up a little recently due to better production, many things still look poor and cannott cope.

The channel either needs bandwith increase or a move to new encoder.

CH4 HD runs of newer encoders and as a result looks far better even tho its often on bandwith under 10mpbs.

Re: C4hd

I can't remember the last time I found anything worth watching on CH4 HD. I would have watched My Name is Earl but they decided to stick that on E4 or More4.
I might have watched a film on CH4 HD except since Big Brother (vomit !) started they've hardly screened any.

CH4 HD is not available via Freesat because Sky were, IIRC, involved in the set up costs of the Channel. So whilst it's unlikely that CH4 HD will appear in the short term on the Freesat platform, there's always the possibility that it might sometime in the future.

Same here. Great, it looks superb - but I don't think i've found myself watching anything on it for months.

Re: C4hd

I just hope that in time every HD channel will be at the quality of C4HD when dealing with SD content. The SD stuff is obviously upscaled to a high quality at their end before being pumped out to our boxes, and the difference is clear when compared to how other HD channels deal with SD content. It's the only HD channel that gets me 2nd guessing at whether some SD content is infact HD. Usually i can spot the difference on other channels the exact instant i look at it.

Life Class: Today's Nude, CH4HD 12.30

Just watched this, very good quality. How do they get away with showing this in the day.

Re: C4hd

Season 1 Episode 4 of 5
Artist Judy Purbeck leads today's class from Haringey Council's Hornsey Library. Using her 10 years' experience in teaching life drawing, she focuses on portraits and clothed figure drawing, and is joined by professional artists' model Ken Fahy

That doesn't sound promising.

Re: C4hd

I agree with the posts here about C4HD. Even my g/f was really taken aback by the quality of Come Dine with Me, (apart from the tendency for it to clip the top end of the contrast ratio with the massive floodlight they use for indoor scenes lol). Big Brother was also good, though you can see it was upscaled by a mile.

BBC are totally missing a trick with their HD channel. They could be making a real go of it but constantly miss the boat with some rubbish from yesteryear nobody likes! Torchwood was excellent admittedly, but they really need to get some re-runs of Top Gear on here - even if they upscale it, the prodcustion is so good every man in britain will love it!
