Just as important, how about newer encoders or an increase in bandwith. We can only hope.....

The top gear trip in the cars special to the north pole gets repeated in HD on BBC HD now and again.
And looks really good.

Re: BBC set to increased HD content

About time!!! BBC HD rarely gets a look in when I'm watching the box ( although with Wimbledon starting, this will change).

However, the programmes which are 'coming over' hardly inspire enthusiasm.

Top 3 BBC HD wants:

1. Match of the Day
2. Top Gear
3. Erm..............Country File

Compared to Sky 1HD and even CH4HD, the BEEB should really take a long hard look at themselves.

Re: BBC set to increased HD content

But I want some Barrowman HD action, and another dozen Graham Norton vehicles.

Why show Ashes to Ashes in HD months after the SD airing?

Why not show Top Gear, one of the BBC's top rated shows that has been filmed in HD for about 2/3 series?

Why show repeats of a programme on BBC HD instead of the new series airing on BBCx at that exact time.

Somehow us people at the forefront of technology get 3year old repeats of the pap nobody actually watches. I said about 2years ago 'I bet Dragons Den will be in HD before Top Gear". And on was right

Is there a date for the HD run? Still haven't started to watch the SD version yet and would happily wait a month or so and get HD.

Don't hold your breath waiting for MOTD, I was reading somewhere that this won't happen for a year or so, until they move to a new studio or something, they haven't got HD facilities where they are now.

It is the remit of the BBC HD service to only broadcast a selection of BBC shows in actual HD, not a mixture of HD and upscaled SD like C4 and Sky1 do. They have no mandate to use licence payers cash to upscale everything else and do a tandem service like those channels.

BBC - About the BBC - Statements of Programme Policy 2009/2010 HD

Pity though. Top Gear and the F1 coverage would be sweet even just upscaled

And I don't think all Prem games are filmed in HD are they?

Granted, and quite correct imho. However, they do seem to go out of their way to shaft the HD viewer. A prime example being Ashes to Ashes, one of the BBC's prime offerings, recorded in HD but not even a whiff of an HD showing until weeks after the end of the season on SD. Surely that would have been a prime candidate for an HD/SD simulcast? As opposed to the 8-millionth rerun of Robin Hood or whatever.

I mean, they're repeating Krod Mandoon endlessly at the moment and that's a steaming pile

Ashes to Ashes wasn't filmed with HD cameras. It was made with 16mm film, with which the BBC have an internal policy of not transferring to HD for broadcast.

So it seems the BBC are dropping their guidelines for HD quality (), to boost HD content.
