Not another "Why isn't Top Gear in HD" thread!

I see it isn't on in BBC HD on Sunday - does anyone have any other background info? Will any episodes be in HD?

Re: Not another "Why isn't Top Gear in HD" thread!

I'm beginning to think BBC HD is misleading and a bit of a con.

F1 not in HD either

Re: Not another "Why isn't Top Gear in HD" thread!

The F1 not in HD is nothing at all to do with the BBC.
Nobody gets the F1 feeds in HD - it's all about the money.

Re: Not another "Why isn't Top Gear in HD" thread!

are the BBC still commiting to all production being in HD by 2010? Or will they wriggle out of it by saying things like Top Gear are independent productions so they don't count?

I did read that the BBC don't pay a huge amount for Top Gear, but they make their money from merchandising/DVD sales etc. I'd have thought that market is quite male, fairly old and fairly flush - perfect for bluray/HD sales - so maybe they'll move to HD for their own reasons.

Re: Not another "Why isn't Top Gear in HD" thread!

Lets hope that FOTA's break away championship for next year is filmed in HD

To echo myself though, Top Gear is crying out for HD treatment! We had one Arctic Special in HD and it was wonderful.

Re: Not another "Why isn't Top Gear in HD" thread!

Look here for the latest info on BBC HD, including Top Gear.
I, too enjoyed the artic special in HD and would love to see more.
Forgive me though but aren't the Top Gear shows currently being shown just repeats or compilations?

From reports on Digital Spy it looks like SKY will nab the FOTA championship rights, looks like another tenner a month to add the Sports pack onto my subscription.

Utter rumour & speculation about a series that will probably never happen. FOTA might not like it but they need F1. Not as much as F1 needs them though.

Re: Not another "Why isn't Top Gear in HD" thread!

It's just Ferrari having a hissy fit 'cos they're not winning again, they always want the rules in their favour and many times they get it. Remember that year Schumacher finished the race at Monza in the pit lane to 'take' his stop/go penalty!

Some countries have F1 in HD it's done on a pay per view basis I believe. F1 has been filmed in HD for the past 5 years or so, I think that the feeds to the stewards and track are in HD. I'm sure I read this on an F1 forum but I don't mind being wrong

Re: Not another "Why isn't Top Gear in HD" thread!

Tell the head of BBC HD why you want Top Gear in HD here:
BBC - BBC Internet Blog: BBC HD: Wimbledon and some Top Gear questions

And by the way, it was Silverstone where Schumacher took the penalty after crossing the line in the pit lane... /anorak
