Hitchcock on HD

Hey all, just read an email from Sky and they are showing Hitchcock movies on Sky Classics in HD from bank holiday monday - 25th. Woo hoo!

Seems to include Notorious, Vertigo, Rear Window and Psycho

Can't wait - I adore these movies nad will be interesting to see how they look in HD - does this mean a BR release can't be far off if there are HD transfers around?

I hope so!

Hitchcock season in HD on Sky The greatest film ever made, Vertigo, is showing this weekend and in HD. Awesome.

As Classics is not an HD channel, the promo makes the point that the HD versions will only be on Anytime. Make sure it's enabled!!

That's one thing I've always wondered - where does Sky source the HD film versions from?

Just watched the first 10 mins of Vertigo on Anytime and I must say it looks nice and crisp with buckets of colour. In my opinion I'd be happy for this as a blu-ray release (without any tweaking!)

Fingers crossed for an impending blu-ray release...

From the distributor, where else
There is no magic or mystery about the huge library of HD masters of theatrical releases, they have always been the backbone of domestic HD broadcasting since the original masters shot on film contain far more detail than HD requires.
The problems only really appear when budgets meant using lower quality film stock or the masters were poorly stored or simple and wear and tear, the best of the catalogue movies have been full cleaned and restored but that costs £££ and atm not a huge impetus for studios or broadcasters to invest in the process for anything but very profitable or important works (Bond franchise, ZULU as a British Classic etc etc).

They are all on Anytime, so I have just pushed 'record' on each one and transfered them from anytime into my planner, to what when I want

Vertigo looks superb on my Kuro and so much better than the Region 1 upscaled, which is apparently the best SD transfer available.

It's a shame these only run for a few days on Anytime, miss them and you've had it! Plus no sign of the films showing again in HD through conventional listings.
