Hello KigFats and Viking61.. (and also Mean Doris!!)
Many thanks for the info on Upgrading the firmware and Region Codes in particular for the Tosh EP35. I have been on the lookout for this RCE hack for a long time. There was that bloke who apparently used to work for Toshiba who had the codes but got very "Dog in the Manger" about it and tried to sell it for £20 a throw, but wanted 200 takers before he would release it! I believe he was also thrown out of this forum for bad behaviour!! He re-appeared on a Australian Forum and was still whingeing about his treatment...
Anyway never mind him..
just wanted to offer you all sincere thanks for helping on this issue.. and for making it so simple to proceed with the updates.
I have some observations I would like to pass on for other "Updaters" which are not quite in line with your own instructions: It might assist others if they have slightly different versions of this player. I should make the point that my own player came from Germany and was updated on firmware only as far as V2..as per the official Toshiba Update disc.
I found during the installation process that:
1. Having opened the tray and placed the disc in, Pushing "
T-Search" didn't do anything; neither did
pushing the numbers 1,3 or 9 followed by "1" and when I
further pressed T-Search, once more nothing happened!
2.I started again from scratch, shut down and then having placed the disc in the tray,
closed it, at this point.
3. The LCD display then came up with "VERUP". I let it sit there for a while, not being quite sure what to do, but then when nothing had seemed to happen, I pressed the "OK" button.. there was a brief flicker of something in the display then it went to display ,in sequence " 1/4;2/4;3/4;4/4..where it sat for absolutely ages. I had read and printed out the advice from "MeanDoris"..linked by your "headsup" HTML...and noted that he said things took a long time. So I left it running.. and Bingo the process completed in time ,spat the disc out and shut itself down.
4.I then left the disc in as suggested by MeanDoris, and restarted it via the handset. MeanDoris was correct.. there was a further brief "update" of some kind and "1/2" appeared, followed by "2" and "2/2". By this stage I had no idea what to expect!
5. But as Doris said.. "Robert was your mother's brother! and it played all regions without hesitation, first time out!
6. I followed this up with an installation of Firmware V4..obtained easily from your link, Fats!! All quite straightforward as the "i
mgburn" programme presented itself without delay. (I had installed that on a previous occasion).
7. So all in all a successful 45 minutes attending to all this and so am now a very Happy Uncle Grumpy !! Thank you to all concerned!
Best wishes to all hackers, Anoracks and enthusiasts!
