Post The 700 Club ;)

I'll post a full list later on, but just curious: anyone else have a collection of 700 (or more) titles?

In other words, anyone wasted just as much money as I have on these blessed red discs???

I think you know the answer to that is going to be no.

My collection barely hits 150, and I know in that I have several I haven't even watched yet. Could never dream of 700, that would mean I would have to own Norbet and I just won't do that.

I hope you have a backup machine, would be gutted if I had 700 films I couldn't watch. Actually suprised that many were released.

wasn't there 1500 films in total released world wide? There was a lot more films available on HD than on blu ray at the time.

I have 700+ if, like SuperChris, you include the titles with more than one version (I collected mainly because it had a different cover/artwork). Like Total Recall (UK, Ger, Fench, Aus etc...). The ones I am missing are mostly Japanese and Russian releases. Pretty sure I have all the box sets except the Japanese ones.

Isn't Band of Brothers a 5-disc set, or have you found something really special?

As much as it pains me to say, eBay. Seen some things on eBay - South Park, Bloodrayne etc - that I really have seen no where else.

+1 for eBay, for "rare" titles; for "semi-rare" titles, i prefer Amazon (US, UK, GER, & FRA, plus JP if u can stomach shipping costs)

Why?

I really can't see the point in buying HD-DVD's just for the sake of them being HD-DVD's, whether they are German, French, US, Jap, Eng, etc etc. OK, they may have different covers or extras or slightly different endings etc but what is the point if you don't like the sort of film that you are purchasing?

I am still increasing my HD-DVD collection, but I am being choosy, If I don't like that sort of film forget it.

Am I missing something?

Awww stu, some people just have a passion for something that they get enjoyment out of, its just like someone who collects star wars memorabilia, i mean, what is the point of that, but they do it, cause they get something out of it. Also people who have hd-dvd players just want some content to watch. If people had this passion when the format war was on then maybe it might have continued to survive.

well, it just started out as running across a good deal for a player + 12 titles; after that, finding how affordable most titles were, i just went in that direction, as an easy and (semi-) cheap way to build up a library. initially i was choosy about what i bought, but once i ran through all the "desirable" titles, i decided to continue...yadda yadda yadda, here we are today. plus, i enjoy defending the format, because there's NOTHING wrong it, other than the fact that u won't get new titles...but so what? there are hundreds of titles in the format that i've never seen before, so that's effectively the same as buying new stuff.

if it's any consolation, i held out as long as i could b4 buying Norbit...it was $2.

for the record, i concentrate on titles, not diff versions...i don't re-buy the same title unless there's a genuine difference from one to another (T2 for example: German steelbook release and the "regular" French release; also the Matrix boxset & the "Ultimate" Matrix boxset, even though the difference between the two is one disc).

I only got into hd-dvd because i saw the xbox hd-dvd add-on in hmv for £30 new in april 2008, even tho i knew the format was over, £30 was a bargain compared to over £200 for blu ray.
It was a quick and cheap way to actually see the benefit of HD on my full HD TV. I had no problems with the drive and picture quality what so ever and it connected straight away to the internet to access the interactive content.
Since then i havn't looked back, i even acquired a stand alone XE1 which i am thoroughly impressed with, I still havn't gone blu yet either, any new movies i fancy i will buy them on DVD as my XE1 does an excellent job on upscalling them.
I also wrote to toshiba asking for an update to activate the usb ports and maybe include a function so we could access computers on our networks to view HD content, unfortunately they told me that they stopped supporting the the product some time ago and developing firmware would be expensive, which i understood, but it was nice to recieve a reply directly from the head of toshiba.

Darned Red Boxes!!

This is a bug which has got me hooked, too.
I have been collecting these for about 15 months, now, & my collection stands at around 420.
It started when I was looking at getting a blu-ray burner for my pc, & I found a LG burner which could also play HD Dvds. When I saw the HD Dvd titles for sale on e-bay & in CEX for a couple of quid, I was hooked!
Only trouble is that I am getting into the rare ones now, which are normally more than a couple of quid, sadly!!
What I will say is that the quality on a decent HD tv is fabulous, & better in many instances than blu-ray.

You've done well to get 420 in 15months, i have been collecting since 2008 and only have 200+ but they are ones that i would watch, its just that it was so much cheaper than buying the dvd equivalent

The only thing that will sway me to go blu would be 3D, and for that use only. Am going to see star wars today in 3D to help me decide if it is worth upgrading my projector to an epson 3D one as i have not experienced a new 3D movie yet.

No no no no no. Truly dissapointed with star wars, noticed it kept switching between 2d and 3d, and fuzzy in some parts. I will wait till another 3D movie filmed for 3D comes out, as they must also think about the depth of a scene before they film it. But am truly dissapointed with what i saw today. I may just spend my money on getting a really good 2D projector with good contrast and blacks

Like I said though, it's getting to the point where I am looking at the rare ones, & boy, some are very expensive!! I can't ever see me reaching the 700 region, unless I win the lottery!

Since starting to collecting the discs, I got my lad a HD Dvd plug-in player for his X-Box, a Toshiba HD E-1 for me, & I now have a Toshiba HD EP-30 on the way from flea-bay, as a standby! This is as well as the original player in the pc.
I've got to start getting out more!!

Watch a real 3d movie before you decide to go 3d , all conversions are bad but real 3d is a joy to watch
