What happened when the firmware upgrade went wrong? At which stage of the upgrade did it go bad? Is it not responding at all now?

Re: firmware update went wrong HD-EP10

Hi, hope you don't mind me re awakening this thread. I just
bought a HD-EP10 which did work to go along with my EP30.
But I updated the firmware via the web and at the end of the
update it sat flashing 'Setup 5/5'. So I left it for well over
25 minutes but then had that worrying feeling that it had failed
the update so I rebooted it and now it won't boot up and sits saying
'Welcome' .

I realise its messed the firmware but was wondering if anyone
knows of a place I can get it fixed ? I emailed Toshiba but
haven't had a reply yet and have a sneaky feeling all I might get
is a polite 'sorry we can't help' reply.

I did exactly this with my ep30 not in the summer. i left it for 45mins on step 5/5. I contacted toshiba and said what had happened. I was creative with the purchase date, ie less than a year old. They then sent out a replacement by courier and collected the original one. The new one even came with the 2 free films! It might be worth a shot, nothing lost and all that.

I did this after buying a replacement from the classifieds. so i now have a Brand new one as a spare.

The last part of the firmware flash always takes quite a long time. Usually 20 - 30 minutes. Many people make the mistake of thinking that it has gone into a hang situation and then restart the player. That will brick it.

Having said that, I think Toshiba UK is very helpful in such cases with replacing it. Many guys on this forum have called them and got it sorted out. Hopefully one of them can give you the phone number to call.

P.S.
If you don't get it replaced, I might be interested in buying the HD DVD drive in it.

Many thanks for the replies, hopefully I'll hear something from
Toshiba at the start of the week or I'll give them a ring and
see what comes from it.

If all else fails I'll keep your offer in mind Viking61.
