I've not upgraded the firmware on my XE1 for a while and wondered what the latest version was and whether it's worth upgrading?

I guess the other question is which firmware upgrade IS worth upgrading to and which to avoid and why?

4.0 is the last and final FW update and it is quite stable. It resolved many issues with some difficult to play DVDs and improved the 1080/24 play. You can still update via ethernet or get a CD from Toshiba. You can also download and burn the CD yourself from the following site:

I'm finally going to update my region free HD-XE1 to v4 firmware, but wanted to check whether I will lose the region free DVD playback ability if I install it over the top of the current firmware? I'm not near my player at the moment, but think it's running v2.5 or v2.7. Either way it's currently region free for DVDs.

You will not loose your region free , and your fine updating from your Current version
