It shouldn't. Anthem says everything is set to be released on October 27th. If anything changes I will let you know, but as of right now we are a GO for 10/27/2009

Re: Limited release HD DVD now available for pre-order

As of today, just 155 HD DVDs left of this release.
Looks as though it will sell out before the October release date.

Re: Limited release HD DVD now available for pre-order

WOW... Just two days ago I was complaining about being bored since the Mastering of Deadlands 2 was complete.... but man I should have kept my mouth shut.

We had a major dilema arise in the pressing of the HD DVDs, but thankfully it all worked itself out. The original MFG company had to bag on us because they never informed their sales reps the STAMPERS were removed, so Alex and I spent the entire day on the phone calling 20 other mastering houses in the USA. We found one in the midwest that was able to pick up the slack and make sure we hit our target date.

This has definitely been the strangest release of anything I have ever been involved with in the last 4 years of my indie filmmaking career. I used to love rollercoasters because of the intense thrill... Now I think I get an even better high off of trying to meet short deadlines and making things happen when the whole world is against it (Manner of speaking)

This has definitely been a crazy friggin' month.

Just think guys this might honestly be the last HD DVD ever. Since everyone has returned their stampers.

If the USA plants couldn't handle it, the package would have needed to be shipped to Germany which seems to be the only country with HD DVD stampers other than China and the studio couldn't trust china because of the mass pirating problem over there. If we would have had to ship to Germany it would have delayed the release by 2 weeks, but we lucked out.

Man I could use a drink right now...

Re: Limited release HD DVD now available for pre-order

UPDATE, UPDATE UPDATE:

Anthem has just informed me that the HD DVD Version of the film will be delayed until November 24th 2009. This is because of the mastering work needed to fit every single feature I supplied on the HD DVD.

Because of this delay ANTHEM is offering those who pre-order the following:

A free copy of the DVD release which will ship on October 27th or a $10.00 gift certificate to use in their store. Your HD DVD version will ship on November 24th.

So essentially you get 2 DVDs/HD DVDs for the delay.

Email Alex at Anthem to let her know which you want
alex@anthemdvd.com or call her at 818-597-2346x114

Re: Limited release HD DVD now available for pre-order

ANOTHER UPDATE - DEADLANDS 2 HD DVD will be a 3 disc set

Hey Everyone.

DISC 1: EXTENDED UNRATED DIRECTORS CUT (Commentaries and Audio selections will be on the disc) Yes the HD DVD cut is slightly longer than the DVD cut, no extra gore so to speak, just so tweaks I did to the edit which made it 30 seconds longer than DVD edition.

DISC 2: WORK PRINT EDITION (Commentaries and Audio selections will be on the disc)

DISC 3: ALL SPECIAL FEATURES (The new HD DVD versions, and the original SD Features as well)

Because of the severe shortage of 30gb HD DVD discs will be using a combo of the 15gb and the original 9gb HD DVD Discs.

Are these all gone now? It seems to have disappeared off the Anthem website and the original link posted no longer works

They might be. The minute it hit 500 they were supposed to disable the link so that it didn't oversell.

Maybe not, three days ago there were still 140 units left. The link may well have been taken down so as to factor in the later release date in November...
Don't be surprised if the link reappears again...

Re: Limited release HD DVD now available for pre-order

Just out of interest, on other forums, others are emailing Anthem and asking them to forget about a free DVD version or a $10 account credit due to the delay but instead are asking them to put any money from this goodwill gesture towards another release on HD DVD...

I have gone with this idea and have emailed Alex at Anthem accordingly. Anyone else feel the same way?

I agree, but only if there is some sort of assurance that the money will indeed be earmarked for another HD DVD release. Let's see what others say. I haven't yet e-mailed and will likely do what you have done.

I'm not bothered about a refund or whatever. It's the first time I've heard of a refund due to a delay in release date. Perhaps they could donate the money to Charity such as HD-DVD Annoynmous , or somehow get it to other independant film makers..

Re: Limited release HD DVD now available for pre-order

I sent out emails to anyone who emailed me to get the HD DVD rolling. if you sent me an email, then i sent you one back last week with details about the program. As far as the studio, I can't speak for them as to what they did in regards to this, although i did tell them to email people and let them know.

Since the studio is in LA and I am in Maryland its hard to see what they are up to at any given time.

I do here from them about things requiring my approval, such as artwork, disc content, replicator issues etc, but I am not always privy to every detail in how the handle their business.

I haven't talked with them since yesterday (Monday) and I honestly didn't think to ask if they emailed anyone about the refund offer in regards to the delay. We just talked artwork for the DVD, which I know has to burn their ass a little because it is very RARE an indie filmmaker gets art approval. However, in my case it was clause I insisted be in my contract.

In regards to the HD DVD artwork, if they didn't use the ones I submitted from the community of HD DVD fans who submitted artwork, and went with their own it again requires my approval.

One thing you should always fight for as an indie filmmaker is content approval and artwork approval. You already pretty much get final cut as the content is yours, and if by chance you ever do make a movie and sign it with a studio don't let them tell you cuts are needed unless one of two things occur:

1. They paid you for your film up front: Most studios go on a 50/50 deal after they recoup costs with filmmakers so getting money up front is a bitch. However, if they did cough up $$$ up front, then by all means you are obligated to make cuts. i on the other hand, make it very clear I will not make cuts to the films I make unless it is an MPAA issue (see #2)

2. The studio has received a rating from the MPAA that would make the film harder to sell: Most indie films already teeter on a fine line with violence or sexual content, but in my case I try to keep the gore in check to what I think would be an R rating. So if the studio sent the film to the MPAA for rating and they came back with an NC-17 I might have made cuts, but I wanted and they agreed to release it UNRATED so it is pretty much the version I see fit. Plus, I am not that much into overly gory movies. Gore on an indie level can sometimes come off really ****** so it is best to make it quick, practical and believable as possible, which is what I strived for in the making of Deadlands 2.

This response just back in from Alex at Anthem:

"Thank you for being so patient with us for the release of Deadlands 2: Trapped HD DVD collectible. I would have to say this will and be the last HD DVD ever will be made by us or anyone. This is really a collectible.
Would you like a Standard of the Deadlands 2 shipped to you or a credit of 10.00 toward our DVD’s we have in our selection.
We appreciate your business."

Maybe I should use my $10 voucher to buy another copy of Deadlands II on HD DVD and get another $10 voucher, and order another copy of...etc, etc ad nauseum.
