Terminator 2... where's the subtitles?

Somebody do me a great favour and play their copy of this HD DVD.I watched some of this with my wife tonight on my EP35 and as she had difficulty following some of the dialogue I attempted to switch on the subtitles(press subtitle and then direction button). But all I got was some info. on the left side of the screen about the chapter I also went into the Extras as it mentioned subtitles but all I saw was a picture of a remote control and some unfathomable instructions. Any ideas?None of my other discs give me any problems displaying subtitles.

Can't help you sorry...
T2 eh? I would imagine that there wouldn't be the need for subtitles, mostly bang n crash sort of movie with Arnie and his 1 liners....
Did you double check in menu that Subtitled could be assignable? I have seen weirder stuff..

Re: Terminator 2... where's the subtitles?

Terminator 2: Judgment Day -- rare French 2-disc import - eBay, HD-DVDs, Movies, TV Shows, Movies. (end time 10-Sep-09 15:05:28 AEST)

Found your answer...

This set contains both the theatrical version and the director's cutof the movie. The theatrical version has French menus and English DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio but un-turn-offable French subtitles; but the director's cut has English menus, English DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio and no subtitles. I would recommend the director's cut, unless you're learning French! But either way the master and encode are first-class and the lossless audio is fantastic.

Re: Terminator 2... where's the subtitles?

Thanks guys.I don't have the 2 disc set above, but a single disc set.Must be the UK or European release .And now that I'm looking at the plastic cover I see that it states that it has Dutch and French subtitles(not that I was able to get these on screen, either, last night).Says nothing about English subtitles.Very odd not to have English subtitles ,surely on such a prominent film? and yes it's Studio Canal.

Re: Terminator 2... where's the subtitles?

I didn't know Studio Canal did a single disc version?

The two disc version was a French release, I'd never considered the lack of English subtitles as an issue TBH. There are other version avaliable, the german steelbook was considered the best overall HD-DVD version IIRC after it was released.

Might be rare, you better hold onto it

I never use them but as I'm trying to get my wife to finally appreciate a good sci/fi film(she normally can't stand anything like that) and as she's not able to guess the obvious "plot" as mumbled/screamed by Linda Hamilton I got fed up telling her what what Linda had just said so I tried unsuccessfully to switch on the subtitles.

Re: Terminator 2... where's the subtitles?

I was bout to say, explain as you go along, till I read your whole post..

Probably about time you got her some wireless headphones, then you can crank up your system to 11, (she wont hear), you won't hear her, and problem solved..

studiocanal discs are a pain sometimes.

the subtitles can go "missing" by way of the very first time you play the disc. you usually get the option to choose a language the first time it is played and choosing this language sometimes bears on what subtitles are avaliable. (happens on some Brotherhood of the wolf discs). Once you have chosen the language, it goes into the persistant storage on the hd dvd player, so the next time you play the disc you don't get the "choose language" option.

try going into the persistant storage setting of your ep35 and deleting the info it has on studiocanal/T2 and then put the disc in again and see if that language screen comes up again and choose another language.

There are also a fair few studiocanal discs that you cannot even turn off.

The picture of the remote you saw was telling you how you can change the display of the subs, not remove them, repeated pressing of "C" on your remote changes the size (3 different sizes I think) and repeated pressing of "D" changes the position (again 3 different places I think) or the other way around
