tosh ep30 to av8

hope this is in the right place but it does involve a couple of different bits including an ep30
its the first time ive hooked this hd player up to my av8 and despite sound nice the av8 only showed
pro dolby logic ii instead of 5.1 DD when it was running the film

I checked the language settings on the film and this was set to 5.1 DD i then tried true HD despite knowing this shouldnt work and the sound seem to alter slightly but the arcam screen still showed dolby pro logic II

So im confused as it did this with 2 different films serenity and matrix.
the player was connected up with an optical lead
im assuming the av8 didnt receive DD 5.1 of would have displayed it, therefore should the player be changed on its output mode, PCM??

Any help would be great as this is bugging me, thanks
