EP35 has lost its region free-ness

Would anyone have any idea why my EP35 would suddenly and without reason lose it's region free firmware?
I have tried to re-install the firmwares I had with no joy.

Re: EP35 has lost its region free-ness

Which error message do you get? I suspect that it is still regionfree, but you try to watch a RCE encoded region 1 DVD. If that is the case, you need to enter the RCE hack.

Re: EP35 has lost its region free-ness

It just comes up with "region error" which has never happened before. Never have had to use the RCE hack - but when I did try it yesterday "test" was never displayed before, during or after the t.test 1, 3, 9, 1 t.test play routine.
It seems like the whole system was reset the other night as it started beeping with every button press - turned off within the setup menu.

Most confused.

Re: EP35 has lost its region free-ness

It sounds indeed like you have lost the regionfree setting. What happened when you tried to re-install the regionfree firmware? Did it go as normal with 2 restarts?

Can you press Display, 1, 9, 5, Display on your remote and tell me what is shown as software version?

Re: EP35 has lost its region free-ness

Viking - cheers for this.
I tried re-installing the region free software with the 2 restarts & 4.0 from the same discs that did the trick last time - but no luck. i gave up after that as it was getting towards 1 in the morning.
As soon as I get home I'll do as you said and let you know the current firmware.

Just re-run the region free firmware - did the 2 restarts, without luck.
Package setting now on 1300.

Re: EP35 has lost its region free-ness

All seems to be correct. I suppose you have tried with a disc you know worked well before.

You can try running EP35-dirty1 and EP35-dirty2. It's a bit scary procedure, and it's very important that you follow the instructions to the letter. It will completely reset your tuner, and then install the regionfree firmware.

Re: EP35 has lost its region free-ness

It's a pair of hacked files that was made in the same batch as the regionfree files for the EP30. They are used together with a couple of other firmware files to flash an EP30 into a quasi EP35 and back.

But in your case only the EP35 files are needed.

You can find a link to the files and instructions here:
Toshiba EP30 Region Free Firmware

Just substitute EP30 with EP35 in the instructions.

Re: EP35 has lost its region free-ness

So burn the ep35-dirty1 & ep35-dirty2 to cd - one each - and following the instructions as per ep30, running v4.0 thereafter?

Re: EP35 has lost its region free-ness

Yup.

You can test if it's regionfree after the 2 dirty firmwares.
