No picture from HD-XE1

I recently got hold of a second hand HD-XE1, and was really looking forward to have the best HD DVD player available. But there is one big problem.

When I turn it on, I get no picture on the TV. And yes, I know about the small switch behind the front fold-down door where you select HDMI/Component or S-video/Composite. I have tried both HDMI and Component with the switch set to 2, and S-video and Composite with the switch set at 1. But no picture at any setting.

The player itself seems to work fine. It even detects that it is connected through HDMI, and shows that on the display. I have tested on 2 different TVs using 2 different HDMI cables, and I have also tried reflashing with the latest firmware, but still the same.

Has anyone experienced anything similar, and is there anything to be done about it?

Hi Viking! I was hoping it will be the switch, as happened with me when I first got mine. I don't think I can suggest anything concrete, but do tell if you get sound? And if it happens with SD DVD/HD DVD and CDs?

Have you had a chat with Toshiba? You never know your luck as they seem to be quite generous with replacements.....or are all the XE1s gone?

Re: No picture from HD-XE1

Testing on different displays (plus swapping cables) surely points to a faulty player? especially if you've tried Composite connection as well.
Not sure what else to suggest apart from leaving the player OFF at the mains overnight then re-trying following day.
Good luck and hope you find a solution.

Re: No picture from HD-XE1

Thanks for all suggestions. Just my luck I guess. When I finally managed to track down an XE1, it doesn't work.

I don't get sound when using HDMI or S-video connection, but I have sound when using Composite with RCA audio connection. But I suppose in that case, the audio is completely separate from the video.

I will see if a broken XE1 or XA2 comes up for sale, and then I can use the mainboard from that one.

Btw. Emthree, your broken Venturer has got an A30 mainboard and is flashed into a regionfree EP30. Works just great. A wolf in sheep's clothing.
