My entire Home Theater System has been down for the past 18 Months and yesterday I wired it back up. I connected up my HD-A2 checked for updates and proceeded to do the update, after a while the player shutdown and when powered back up it now stays on the Welcome Screen on the little LCD display.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.
Sorry but that's usually bad news think i've only read of one player which has recovered from this,you can try powering off at the mains and retrying but apart from that the next step would have to be a repair i'm afraid.
